The first annual “Spirit Stone Shuffle” 5k Race will take place this year on October 12, 2019! The Spirit Stone Shuffle is a 5k fundraising race to kick off the completion of the Spirit Stone Trail that was built to run between Brimley State Park and the Iroquois Light House in Brimley, Michigan. This trail connects Bay Mills and Brimley Township along 35 miles of beautiful Lake Superior shoreline, including in-land lakes and many miles of trail - like sections of the North Country Trail. Spirit Stone is a translation of the name Shingabawassin, who was a local Ojibwe Chief from the Crane Clan. Shingabawassin played a significant role in the history of the Brimley and Bay Mills area, and was a signatory to the 1820 Treaty of Sault Ste. Marie.
