Place

15243 Nowthen Blvd
Anoka, MN US 55303

Description

Conscious Healing Counseling is hosting a walk-a-thon to recognize an amazing program, The Special Olympics of Minnesota, and the multitude of ways they support both individuals & families.

The goal is to accumulate miles through the first two weeks of September to build awareness, normalize, and offer solidarity to those with special needs and their families.
All goals are completely personalized. You determine, individually, what type of movement is meaningful to you each day and dedicate those activities to all the facets of the Special Olympics program. However, as a COMMUNITY the miles are added together to see how far we can go!

Goal: Build up miles & build connection!

What: Track your miles on the Run Sign Up page and watch those numbers grow!

When: September 9th - 30th, 2022

Where: Anywhere!

Cost: Free. Donations welcome (link below)

The Special Olympics philosophy states, "we believe that through sports training and competition, people with intellectual disabilities benefit physically, mentally and socially. As a result, families are strengthened, and the community at large unites in understanding people with intellectual disabilities. Furthermore, this mindset creates an environment of equality, respect and acceptance."
These values align with Conscious Healing Counseling in serving the community and offering a safe space for individual & family growth. Therefore the walk-a-thon is meant to highlight this service and the power of connection through physical movement.

We are thrilled to connect with you through joyful movement and loving intention.

From the Special Olympics website:

“Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” – Athlete Oath

Special Olympics is a global movement of people creating a new world of inclusion and community. Here in Minnesota, we serve more than 8,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities every year through sports training and competition, free health screenings, leadership training and more.

Through Special Olympics Minnesota (SOMN) programming, more than 8,200 people with intellectual disabilities showcase their skills to their peers, their communities and the world. In braving their attempts, they gain new experiences and become confident and empowered by their accomplishments. As a result, they create lifelong bonds with fellow athletes, volunteers and people in their communities.

SOMN welcomes people of all ages both with and without intellectual disabilities. Whether traditional athlete, Unified Partner or Young Athlete, SOMN creates an accepting and inclusive environment for everyone!

Special Olympics is a global movement of people creating a new world of inclusion and community. We aim to build a culture that accepts and welcomes every single person regardless of ability or disability. We are helping to make the world a better, healthier and more joyful place—one athlete, one volunteer, one family member at a time.

Through sports, our athletes celebrate their abilities, not their disabilities. Their world opens with acceptance and understanding, while becoming confident and empowered by their accomplishments. They make new friends, joining the most inclusive community on the planet—a global community that’s growing every day.

Philosophy

Special Olympics Minnesota believes that people with intellectual disabilities can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy and benefit from participation in individual and team sports. Necessary adaptation ensures we meet the needs of those with intellectual and physical disabilities.

In addition, we believe that through sports training and competition, people with intellectual disabilities benefit physically, mentally and socially. As a result, families are strengthened, and the community at large unites in understanding people with intellectual disabilities. Furthermore, this mindset creates an environment of equality, respect and acceptance.
