Support the Paws

Our story began in 1979 when the first K9 unit was added to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office in Alexandria, MN. In the last 40 years, several K9s and handlers have joined and retired from the unit. Lakes Area Law Dogs Foundation formed in 2015 to help provide trained K9s and related services, including financial assistance for training, national certifications, seminars, and equipment.

The Lakes Area Law Dog Foundation is a separate entity, but works together with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, receiving funds from community businesses and individuals, in which do not come from the general fund.

Due to Covid-19, we will miss seeing you in-person this summer at our fundraising events. Instead, we will be hosting "Support the Paws" which is a virtual walk/run for people of any age, taking place in August! What makes this event great is its flexibility, meaning anyone in any location can participate when it works for YOU! Not a runner? Don't worry, you can grab a few friends or family members and walk instead!
