Mill Pond Mile

Sat July 20, 2024 Directions
Early Bird deadline ends Friday, July 5th!

Description

It's the 25th Anniversary of the Mill Pond Mile!

To commemorate this special occasion, we picked a special tie-dye T-shirt representing "25 years of color," so make sure you sign up by the Early Bird Deadline on Friday, July 5th to secure your shirt in the correct size. Availability on race day will be limited!

The Mill Pond Mile is a one-mile run around the scenic Mill Pond in New London, Minnesota. It takes place each July, before the annual Water Days parade. It is a family fun run, not an officially timed race, so for those who wish to keep track of personal bests, we encourage participants, parents, or friends to bring a wearable timer or stopwatch.

The Mill Pond Mile was started in 2000 by Jim and Shelly Berg to honor the memory of their 10 year old son, Cody, who died in a car-bike accident in 1999. Each spring, all proceeds from the race go to provide college scholarships for members of the New London Spicer graduating class. View the list of all our current and former recipients on the Scholarships page.

In 2022, Shelly's husband, Jim, passed away after a short but hard-fought battle with cancer. The scholarship fund was renamed the "Cody and Jim Berg Scholarship Fund," and the Mill Pond Mile continues on, thanks in large part to the dedication of the entire Berg family, plus friends, volunteers, and sponsors.

We look forward to seeing you at the starting line!

Sponsors

We are currently looking for sponsors for 2023. Each year, our goal is to raise enough in sponsorship revenues to cover the cost of our T-shirts. That way, all registration fees can go toward the Cody Berg Scholarship Fund. Based on our increasing number of registrants each year (nearly 700 in 2022), we are grateful for any amount you’re willing to give!

All sponsors receive recognition on the Sponsors page of our website, and are included on our race day T-shirts. If you're interested in donating a door prize for our kids drawing, please use the Race Contact Info form above. Thank you for your consideration and support!

About Cody Berg

Cody was an energetic, active kid who loved all kinds of outdoor activities, including baseball, hunting, riding go-carts and running. On April 12, 1999, at the age of 10, Cody was hit by a car and died while riding his bike near his home. His parents, Jim and Shelly Berg, along with friends and family, organized the Mill Pond Mile in the hopes that others will always remember the incredible joy that Cody brought to us during his short life.

Directions

Meet at Mill Pond Park on the east side of the bridge, off County Road 9.
