Pelican River Pheasants Forever -- Hustle For Habitat
Join us for the 3rd Annual Hustle For Habitat event that includes the Rooster Run 5K and 1 Mile Strut on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
Location: Dunvilla Trap Range, 21863 Highway 34 (MN-34), Pelican Rapids, 56572
Directions: From Lakeland General Store (22438 Old 59 Rd, Pelican Rapids, MN 56572), turn west on Highway 34. Turn right into the trap range.
The Pelican River chapter of Pheasants Forever had a blast hosting the Hustle For Habitat event in 2024 and 2025, and we are excited to host it again in 2026! The event includes two races: Rooster Run 5K and 1 Mile Strut. Pheasants Forever is known as the "The Habitat Organization" and each chapter decides how all funds raised will be used to support local habitat. The Pelican River chapter will donate the proceeds from this event to local habitat conservation projects, including the Conservation Education program which was developed to grow an informed public that appreciates and supports wildlife habitat conservation and the benefits it provides to clean water, clean air, soil protection and a healthy environment to live in.
If you ran with us in 2025 ... please note these important changes for 2026: The route now pops up to the gravel road right after the water stop, the route will have more directional signage (especially coming out of the field), and we have already reserved more porta potties! We will also have more copies of the map and schedule at registration to make sure every runner knows when and where things are happening. Note that due to the farm habitat, this is more of a "trail run" than a "road run".

Race Day Schedule
Here is the schedule for Race Day, July 25, 2026:
- Same Day Registrations and Packet Pick Up begins at 7:00 AM
- 1 Mile Strut: 8:30 AM
- Rooster Run 5K: 9:00 AM
- Awards: 10:30 AM (or following the last person finishing the 5K race)
All registered 5K and 1 Mile participants will be provided with snacks and cold beverages at the Finish Line.
After the races, stay around to enjoy fun, music, and delicious food and beverages! (If you attended the last two years, you already know that the food is delicious!)
RACE EVENTS
ROOSTER RUN 5K
The 5K is a chip-timed race on a grassy trail surrounded by lush farmland, along a river, past beautiful pollinator fields, and new in 2026 ... as requested ... part of the route now pops up onto the gravel road! (Yippee!) Open to all ages. All finishers receive a medal. Awards are given to the Overall Winners (Men and Women) and the Top 3 Men and Top 3 Women finishers by specified age categories. All 5K runners registered prior to July 16, 2026, will receive a newly designed race t-shirt.
1 MILE STRUT
The 1 Mile is a Fun Run/Walk on a grassy trail next to lush farmland, across a field, and around the pollinator garden. Open to all ages. This is a great option for anyone wanting to participate and join the fun without having to do the longer route. This is not a timed race. All finishers will receive a participation award.
COMBO: ROOSTER RUN 5K AND 1 MILE STRUT
It worked well in 2025, so we are again offering the "Combo" registration option that includes entry into both the Rooster Run 5K and the 1 Mile Strut for a reduced rate. This is a great option for anyone wanting to participate in the 1 Mile Strut (maybe as a warm-up, or with a small child) and then take on the longer Rooster Run 5K. All Combo runners registered prior to July 16, 2026, will receive a newly designed race t-shirt.
VIRTUAL: ROOSTER RUN 5K or 1 MILE STRUT
We realize that not everyone can make it to Pelican Rapids on race day, so we are again offering virtual options for both the Rooster Run 5K and 1 Mile Strut. Running virtually, at your time and location, is a great way to still participate in the event without having to be on-site on race day. Choose either the Virtual Rooster Run 5K or Virtual 1 Mile Strut race event. After you finish your run, submit your timing results online.
Merchandise For Sale
When you register online, you have the opportunity to purchase a few merchandise items to commemorate this 3rd Annual Hustle For Habitat event.
Items include:
- Hustle For Habitat t-shirt - $19. This is a high-quality t-shirt with the 2026 Hustle For Habitat logo. Note that Rooster Run 5K participants get this t-shirt as part of the registration fee.
- Rooster Run 5K socks - $13. These are high-quality socks from BigSky Socks with a great design of the legacy Pheasants Forever logo and rooster tracks up the heel.
Packet Pickup
You can pick up your race packet on race day, Saturday July 25, from 7:00-8:30 am
Same Day Registrations start at 7:00 am.
Note that *Same Day Registration fees are:
- Rooster Run 5K - $50
- 1 Mile Strut - $25
- Combo Rooster Run 5K and 1 Mile Strut - $70
* These fees include all processing fees. No additional fees are charged when you register. Note that these fees did not increase since last year, but we highly suggest registering prior to the event to make things go smoother on race day!
