CINCO K MAYO Virtual 5K Race
Dear Friends,
This comes at a time of great uncertainty and what more can be said about Covid-19 that hasn’t already been reported. Like some of you, I had planned to run not one, but two races – St. Patrick’s Day and Go! St. Louis. I was hoping to race two more times before my April 1st knee replacement surgery, but like those events, my surgery was also postponed.
These are unprecedented times, and unlike anything I’ve experienced in 17-years as a race director. Unfortunately, the outbreak of Covid-19 has disrupted our lives and created hardships on businesses and families. We’ve been asked to practice “social distancing” and as a result, the RTCL team is changing CINCO K MAYO from a run/walk to a virtual 5K. This will come as a disappointment, but we consider the health and welfare of our participants and volunteers extremely important, so this decision wasn’t taken lightly.
Running brings community and we’ll miss not having the opportunity to see you and hear about your goals and races for the year. You’ll be offered several options for your registration fee: 1) defer, 2) refund and 3) a virtual 5K. However, by choosing to virtually participate, you’ll receive several perks:
- CINCO K MAYO commemorative shirt or $10 Big River gift card;
- Teams to receive their own shirt regardless of meeting 10 person minimum;
- Finisher’s shot glass;
- $20 discount to Big River on-line store;
- Results posted to your Athlinks account (link to follow); and
- Helping us defray costs & continue our charitable programs.
These clearly are difficult times and we truly respect your decision. Running has always brought some sense of order to my life, especially during chaotic times. Try to make it a priority in your life, but above all, stay healthy. In closing, I want to leave you with an email received from Dave:
“I would like for you guys to keep my race fee if it can be used as a lymphoma donation. This was going
to be my first 5K ever (I’ve lost 105 lbs. over the last year) and I'll be looking forward to it next year!
For me, this is the essence of being a race director and what drives me to do this.

Do You Run for Burritos?!?!
Since the debut of our first race in 2003, we've dedicated our efforts to staging KICK A$$ events. If you have participated in any of our races, thanks for coming back! For those checking us out for the first time, you won't be disappointed! CINCO K MAYO opens our race season with a funtastic morning of running and Mexican goodness! You'll enjoy a scenic 5K course that wanders among the stately homes in beautiful Webster Groves then celebrate with a breakfast burrito and refreshing margarita or ice cold Heyzeus Mexican beer. After all of that running you'll be HUNGRY and THIRSTY, and in need of carbs, right? Let's get the Cinco de Mayo party started with that special edition shot glass you'll receive at the finish line!

Virtual Runner
Can't make it on race day? You can still participate! Just register as a virtual participant, post your workout(s) to your Facebook page, and tag Race To Cure Lymphoma. Just send us an email if you're not on Facebook and we'll mail your swag!
