Description

Who wants some ice cream? The Great Ice Cream Chase is a virtual run and ride to support locally owned small businesses (ice cream shops) in the St. Louis region while celebrating one of summer's best traditions: ICE CREAM!  Run or ride where and when it is convenient for you and submit your time to see how you stack up to the competition. Participants will receive a custom limited edition stackable finisher medal, a gift card to one of our partnered ice cream shops of your choice and incentives/offers to experience all of our local ice creameries. July is national ice cream month, so celebrate it this year in style! I scream, you scream, we all scream to participate in a virtual event for ice cream!

Fun Facts

  • Vanilla is the most popular flavor of ice cream, followed by chocolate even though chocolate was invented prior to vanilla!
  • The ice cream soda was invented in 1874
  • It takes roughly 50 licks to finish an ice cream cone
  • California produces the most ice cream in the United States
  • It takes 12 pounds of milk to produce just 1 gallon of ice cream
  • Ice cream headaches or “brain freeze” is the result of the nerve endings in the roof of your mouth sending a message to your brain of the loss of heat
  • Some of the strangest flavors found are: avocado, garlic, chili, licorice, Stilton cheese, and bacon. Have you tried any of them?
  • The tallest ice cream cone was over 9 feet tall in Italy

What is a virtual race and how does it work?

A virtual run/ride event is similar to a traditional running/cycling event except the participant completes it entirely on their own. There is not a required location that the event must be completed nor a mandatory time. A virtual run/ride event creates positive motivation by helping everyone get outside running to stay active and healthy. Many virtual runs, including The Great Ice Cream Chase, are associated with giving back to it's community. The Great Ice Cream Chase wants to help the St. Louis community, including local ice cream businesses get through this unprecedented time.

Participants first choose the distance they’d like to run or ride, just as they would during a live running event. Once you choose your virtual event and complete your registration, the next step is to conquer the distance you signed up for and earn the finisher medal. The distance set by the event which you registered for can be completed at any location, and at any time of the day. The choice is completely up to you. Also, there is no time limit the distance must be covered in, and you can split up the distance between multiple days. The important thing is to at least finish the event, complete the distance, and have fun. Once finished, simply go online and submit your time to be included in the race results page!
