Description
Summit Scavenger Hunt!
Think Amazing Race meets family walks meets hidden picture puzzles ... and you get the 1st Summit Family Scavenger Hunt.
We are thrilled to host our first-ever event targeted at children and their families! Gather in groups to explore Davidson by foot, searching for different checkpoints with your teammates. Participants will run and walk their way on a self-navigated path from checkpoint to checkpoint, using a combination of navigation and strategy and endurance! The whole course will cover 2-5 miles, depending on the route you choose!
OK, so Details? The timing is flexible! You can participate in the challenge anytime in the window of 9:00am-3:00pm on June 12. You may start and end the adventure at any points in this 6-hour window, and can return to the finish with any or all of the checkpoints.
How Does This Work? Teams may check-in with Team Summit Foundation at Summit Coffee on Main St in Davidson anytime after 9:00am. When you receive your packet of information, the clock will start. You may choose to start your journey immediately and map your route along the way, or pause and strategize before taking off -- once you get your packet, you're on your own. The team with the most checkpoints, in the shortest amount of time, wins!
Who's this for? Families and children aiming to have fun on a Saturday! This is an outdoor recreation activity for people of all ages and ability levels. A team must have at least one member aged 12 or older.
What am I allowed to bring? Phones are prohibited as navigational tools, but great for taking pictures! Otherwise, whatever you can carry on your person is permitted -- keep in mind you'll want to bring all of the food and drink you need throughout the race!
Where does the scavenger hunt go? Roads, trails, maybe through some forest. Pick your path.
How long will it take me? Hard to say! We'd estimate for teams choosing the most direct course, running or walking at a good pace, and avoiding any missteps, you can finish in about 1 hour.
What else do I need to know? This is all to benefit Team Summit Foundation, a Davidson-based 501(c)(3) charity that bridges the gap between all kids in our area by providing resources for schooling, camps, food, and recreation. This is a self-powered, self-governed event. And it's all for fun - if you're inclined to take this event too seriously, it might not be for you!
