Description

Kick off 2024 with the 4th Annual Mangum Marathon & Half Marathon.

There is a 7-hour time limit for the marathon and a five-hour time limit for the 1/2.

Both events will be timed, with finisher medals to all that finish and medals to the top 10 men and Top 10 women in both events.

The course will start at the Dog Pen out in the boondocks, outside of Ellerbe, NC. You will run 2-miles, take a right, run 13.1 miles turnaround and run back to the finish.  Boston has Heartbreak Hill, the Mangum Marathon has the famous climb to Bethel Church at around the 22-mile mark.  For the 1/2, you will turn around at the 6.55 mark and reverse back to the dog pen.

The course will have minimal support.  Please make sure you are equipped with all needed supplies.

The course will provide water bottled water drop spots throughout the course and two manned water stops at the 6.5mile mark and Half turnaround but make sure to bring what you need!  No port-a-johns will be available.  All participants will receive a long sleeve men's or women's technical shirt.  Race shirts and medals are not guaranteed on race day for registrations after 1/6 but will be available after race (1 week processing time).

Race is at the intersection of Carthage Creek Road and Holly Grove Church Road in Richmond County.

1) If you are coming from Highway 73 from either Ellerbe or Mt. Gilead. When you get to the intersection of Carthage Creek Rd and 73, turn south and follow Carthage Creek Road to the intersection of Holly Grove Church Road and Carthage Creek Road. You will see the Dog Pen at the intersection.

2) If you are taking Highway 109 from Mt. Gilead. you will turn east on Grassy Island Road. Travel East approximately 13 miles to Bethel Hill Church. Go past the church and take the next left. That will take you to the Dog Pen.

From Rockingham take Carthage Creek Road north off a Business 74 and follow it to the intersection of Carthage Creek Road and Holly Grove Church Road.
