The "Streets of Gold" 5k event will be  held in conjunction with the first ever "Groovin In the Pines Music Festival" located in Pembroke, NC. The race is held in honor of local musician Mr. Willie French Lowery who was a Native of  Robeson County- he was a community activist that shared his passion and love for home through his music. The name "Streets of Gold" was derived from one of his hit songs! Mr. Lowery passed in 2012 after battling a long fight with Parkinsons Disease. He made an impact on the community especially the youth with his music and the pride of where he came from. The run is is being put on by  Purnell Swett High School Art's Alliance and the Peace in the Park organization. Proceeds from the run will be donated to the Art's club of Purnell Swett High School.
