Description
3rd Annual FREEZE Your Buns Run 5k at Winterfest in Spencer, NC - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023! There will be a 1/2-Mile Fun Dash at 12:30 p.m. before the 5K!
Race Location: 460 S. Salisbury Avenue, Spencer, NC 28159
This race will be held in conjunction with and to benefit the Town of Spencer's 3rd Annual Winterfest, a German Christmas Marketplace, held on the first two weekends in December, Friday nights from 5 - 9 P.M. and Saturdays 2 - 9 P.M. Soak up the sights and sounds of Christmas as you meander through our market of sparkling lights, trees, and merry music. Wooden huts and Market tents are filled with Holiday gifts, crafts and festive food. Watch with wonder at the lighting of the Town tree or join in the skating at Spencer on Ice. Come back again, and again, for other festivities in our beautiful Christmas Marketplace. Come participate in the 5K and then join in the community fun and holiday spirit!!!
This race is held in honor of Salisbury Rowan Runner's president David Freeze (see below)!
5K Registration Fee: $25 (through December 1)
$30 (on December 2 - on-site registration available)
Fun Dash Registration Fee: $15
Awards (5k): Top 3 overall male/female, top masters male/female, and top 3 age division male/female
Medals will be given to the top 3 in each of the following divisions for male and female runners: 12 & under, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 & over.
Overall winners not eligible for age group awards. Awards will not be mailed.
Awards (Fun Run): Top 3 male and female ages 12 and under.
T-shirts – 5k run/walk participants receive a long sleeve technical T-shirt.
Check-In: 11:30 - 12:55 p.m. check-in and race packet pick up; on-site registration available
Inclement Weather Policy: In case of inclement weather, the race may be delayed for one hour. We reserve the right to cancel any portion of the race if we determine existing weather conditions pose a safety hazard for the participants.

FREEZE Your Buns Run 5K - In Honor of David Freeze
David Freeze has been the long-time president of the Salisbury Rowan Runners. He has completed more than 90,000 running miles, plus 24 marathons including multiples at Boston, New York City and Jacksonville. He has also done marathons in Detroit, Montreal and London. David was the five-time top masters runner in North Carolina per the Tar Heel Tour series of events. He regularly writes running and fitness related articles for the Salisbury Post and other publications. With his help, Salisbury achieved national status as a “Runner Friendly Community,” one of about 50 communities across the country to receive this honor. Rowan County hosts about 25 races of varying distances annually, including the regionally recognized Winter Flight 8K/5K and fun run. Winter Flight is the oldest 8K and the fourth oldest race of any distance in North Carolina.
