Description
Celebrating the life of Ethan Fackrell, 11/15/98-05/26/14
Ethan was an active, smiling teenager. He loved music and played the trombone in the school band, along with teaching himself to play guitar. Ethan enjoyed being outdoors. He was a First Class Boy Scout, and could often be found hunting or fishing with his dad and brother. He never knew a stanger. New kids at school were often invited to his lunch table and he was loyal to his friends. He planned to go to the University of Alabama to be a Forensic Scientist. On May 26, Memorial Day, Ethan had just finished making crepe batter for a French assignment when he collapsed in the kitchen. Somewhere between his brain and his heart, his heart stopped receiving the signal to beat. After extensive testing for several months, it was determned he passed away from Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC).
Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) affects 1.4 in every 100,000 children over the age of 12 months. It is also the 5th leading cause of death among toddlers aged 1 to 4 years old. Because SUDC is an unknown, there are no ways to predict or prevent this tragedy. But with continued research, there is hope to discover the risk factors and underlying causes that will ultimately lead to ending SUDC for all.
We are hosting Ethan's Virtual Run for a Reason to support the mission of The SUDC Foundation which includes funding research crucial to uncovering the mystery of SUDC, providing support to families worldwide in their time of need and beyond, and raising much-needed awareness.
This is a virtual race, meaning you can run or walk (or skip or funny walk) wherever you want between November 11, 2016 and November 20, 2016. Participants can create their own fundraising pages through this site. We ask that you invite your family and friends to help support your effort my making a donation. Please remember to take pictures of your virtual run and share them with us! You can share them to the Ethan's Run for a Reason event on the Facebook Page "Celebrating Ethan" or by email to my2boysEQ@gmail.com. All registrants will receive a medal acknowledging their participation.
Together, let's reach for a future free from SUDC!
