Description
Whether you are a seasoned Ridge Runner looking for something to train for, shedding weight in the Pebbles to Pounds challenge, or just looking to get in shape (and support our local community club), these events are for you. Try and compete with the likes of the dynamic Cunningham duo or Graydon (The Iceman) Kolk while improving your health and stepping away from Netflix for a few minutes. For those of you who are on the fence, let's review some of the benefits of running in the cold:
- It is actually easier to run in the cold because your heart rate is lowered
- Running helps release powerful hormones that can combat seasonal depression
- You burn more calories in the cold - Studies have shown you can burn ~34% more calories in colder temperature
- You could catch a glimpse of the infamous RRCC Yeti
Courses:
For the races, as long as you run/walk 3.1 miles or 6.2 miles, your entry and time will be accepted but we strongly encourage you to try these local courses:
- 5K - Try this local Rock Ridge 5K Course which starts/ends at the clubhouse
- 10K - Mixed Terrain - Includes a Rock Ridge Loop, local trails in Muriel Hepner as well as Cedar Lake views (may be challenging with snow)
- 10K - Road Only - Includes 2 loops thru Rock Ridge and Cedar Lake
Awards:
- We will have Rock Ridge QFarm Wood themed prizes for top finishers
- Depending on the latest Executive Orders from the governor, we will look to have a Covid compliant bonfire celebration on the beach (even if it's cold)
Training:
- Feel free to join the "Ridge Runners" club on Strava to track your training progress and see how some of the other local runners are staying or getting in shape
***For any kids itching to get back on the racing scene you are welcome to sign up for this event, however we are also planning a spring time off-road sprint race at the ballfield***
