The Essex Running Club and Fleet Feet Montclair invite you to join us for this very special event in memory of Doug Williams. Doug was a former Montclair resident and beloved member of the Essex Running Club who was killed by a hit and run driver on Upper Mountain Avenue in October 2011. Doug would have turned 61 years old on May 22 this year.
All of the proceeds from the event will go towards the memorial scholarships awarded every year in Doug’s honor to recognize two deserving college bound seniors at Montclair High School who have been outstanding in track and cross country while demonstrating academic excellence, leadership and community service. This will be the 12th year we have awarded this scholarship!
Join us for an in person fun run at Fleet Feet Montclair on Sun, May 21 at 7:30 am or complete the event virtually any time between Fri, May 19 and Sun, May 21. There's a 5K, 10K or 8 Mile Run and you can pick your own route or run one of the suggested routes. The cost is only $10 per person or you can make a donation to support the scholarship if you are unable to run. All participants will be entered in a raffle for a $50 gift card to Fleet Feet Montclair.
After you complete your run, submit your finishing time to the Results page on Runsignup and post your photos to the Facebook page for the event.
We will be holding an in person fun run at Fleet Feet Montclair (603 Bloomfield Ave) on Sun, May 21 at 7:30 am. There will be three suggested routes (5K, 10K and 8 miles) followed by refreshments back at Fleet Feet.
Click on the links below to view the suggested routes. Water and Gatorade will be available on the 10K and 8 mile routes at the corner of Park St and Mt Hebron Rd. Maps and directions will be available on the day of the event. The 8 mile route will also be marked with flags at every turn.
You can pick your own route or run one of the suggested routes.
Doug Williams Memorial 5K: The suggested route from Fleet Feet is the out and back route to Edgemont Park or you can run one of the courses for the former Doug Williams Memorial 5,000 Meter Run. The first is the original course for the Doug Williams Memorial 5,000 Meter Run that starts and finishes on South Mountain Ave at the Montclair Art Museum. The second is the alternate course for the Doug Williams Memorial 5,000 Meter Run that starts and finishes at Tierney's Tavern on Valley Rd.
Doug Williams Memorial 10K: The suggested route from Fleet Feet is an out and back route to Immaculate Conception Cemetery where Doug is buried or you can run the route for the Montclair YMCA 10K. The first is the certified course for the Montclair YMCA 10K that starts and finishes on Park St in front of the YMCA. The second is the same course but with the start and finish at Fleet Feet Montclair.
Doug Williams Memorial 8 Mile Run: The suggested route from Fleet Feet is a special memorial route through Montclair passing by several significant landmarks in remembrance of Doug (Montclair High School, Doug's former home on Stanford Place, Doug's memorial bench in Brookdale Park, Immaculate Conception Cemetery where Doug is buried and Tierney's Tavern).

Recipients of the scholarship are selected from the graduating class at Montclair High School each year based on the following criteria:
