Description
This is not a race!
This is a "go any distance, at any pace" virtual run.
We celebrate the spirit of generosity that brought you here!
Our Reason For Running
Giving Cycle is hosting our 2nd Annual Freedom Run, from Juneteenth (June 19th) to July 4th, and we are calling for everyone to run with us and keep fighting for our shared freedoms, liberty and justice for all! Our goal this year is to raise at least $1965, as a symbolic reminder of the landmark Voting Rights Act passed in 1965, prohibiting racial discrimination in voting.
Funds raised last year went to several worthy causes alleviating inequities and building a brighter future for underserved youth (see below). Funds from this year will be distributed to similar organizations selected by the young philanthropists in our programs, and this year we will have a special emphasis on strengthening civic engagement and protecting voting rights: two fundamental pillars of our democracy.
- Philadelphia Black Giving Circle ($1,865)
- Gianna Floyd Fund ($846)
- Urban Promise | Urban Boat Works ($500)
- Virtua Health Foundation | Eat Well Initiative ($500)
- LUCY Outreach ($500)
- South Camden Theater Company ($250)
- ECO Charter School ($250)
- Jubilee Music Enrichment ($250)
- Camden Dream Center | Kids N' Camden Code ($250)
Since our inception in 2015, Giving Cycle has sparked the joy of giving in over 1,500 young people by providing experiential philanthropy opportunities for middle school students. Our co-founders are Jevon and Devin Torres, brothers who are 18 and 15 respectively, and we operate with no paid staff. By IRS designation, our 501(c)(3) ID is: 47-4207401.

All are welcome.

- You can post as many times as you would like during the duration of the 2021 Freedom Run (note: this year's "eligible dates" are 6/19/21 - 7/4/21)
Our Hope
We are faithfully anticipating a significant influx of community-generated philanthropic capital that will meet or exceed our giving goals. In preparation, we are working with a variety of network partners to ensure that our grantmaking makes the most positive impact at the largest scale possible. Critical to our model is the principle that young people have the insight and inspiration to both nominate and select the nonprofits we transparently fund.
The Giving Cycle Pledge
I pledge to serve my community in all ways that I can for the rest of my life.
