Reach Out Saint Rose Hits the Road!

Sat September 12 - Sat December 12

Description

Reach Out Saint Rose Hits the Road! We may not be able to host our traditional Reach Out Saint Rose event this year, but we will not let this 25-year tradition fade away! Our tradition of Reach Out Saint Rose is reimagined in this 100-mile / 500k Virtual challenge. Join us by walking, running, hiking, or skipping to the finish line — on your own time! Students, alumni, parents, faculty, and staff are invited to "hit the road" while building community, promoting health and wellness, and celebrating our 100 years as a College and 25 years of Reach Out Saint Rose!

YOU CHOOSE THE CHALLENGE:

100 Mile Centennial Challenge - walk run or hike 100 miles between September 12, 2020 - December 12, 2020.... or you can Go Big or Go HOME and participate in the 500k challenge. For those keeping track - that is like completing one-hundred 5k events! You will be able to track your progress and stay motivated using the leaderboard platforms. We hope you will share your challenge on Facebook to motivate others, make new friends, build community, and promote health and wellness.

WHAT COUNTS TOWARD MY MILEAGE?

Running, walking, and hiking count, as long as you are doing it with a purpose! Whether you're walking on the treadmill or hiking up Mt. Marcy, these steps count the same!  However, your steps to the copy machine do not count. This challenge is based on an honor system, so please be fair about what you're tabulating.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN MY REGISTRATION?

Our intent for this event is to build community, promote health and wellness, and celebrate the 100th anniversary of our HOME. All registration proceeds and/or donations will support the Dennis McDonald Student Emergency Fund. The Dennis McDonald Student Emergency Fund is designed to assist Saint Rose students with short-term emergencies such as fire loss, emergency medical costs, and emergency travel expenses. As you can imagine, many of our students needed assistance during COVID-19, and this fund was able to provide them with a bit of relief. For some students, it meant a bus ride home to their families, and to others, it was a meal during a time of food insecurity. Let's keep this fund an active resource for our students in need as the pandemic continues to present challenges for our community.

The Dear Neighbor

A core value of Saint Rose is our "Service to the dear neighbor," a mantra of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet when they founded Saint Rose in 1920. While Reach Out Saint Rose had to "Hit the Road" this year due to COVID-19, we hope this event will serve our community by raising funds for those in need, fostering connections with our neighbors, and inspiring our community to achieve healthy goals.

Sharing & Inspiration

What better way to connect with our community, near and far, than with a Facebook group. Use this page to inspire one another, share photos, and share your experiences during this challenge.

You want to brag — you need some swag!

While the focus of this event is to build community, promote health and wellness, and celebrate the Centennial, we want you to have bragging rights — you have earned it! Decals are being designed, and we will share them with you on social media once they are complete. So, make sure that you sign up for our Facebook group!

We want you to be safe, stay hydrated, follow traffic laws, and walk with a buddy. Please remember to practice social distancing guidelines and wear a mask. If you are on campus and need a mask, just let us know and we will get one for you.

TEAMS

Alumni, current students, parents, faculty, staff, coaches — gather your best team for a friendly challenge! We have a few teams set up already, but feel free to start your own. Each Team member will log their mileage individually and team scoring will calculate automatically. Invite friends, family, and neighbors, and then, game on!

Now it is time to Hit the Road Saint Rose!
