Description

Bellport High School's COMPASS Youth Coalition (CYC), Students Against Destructive Decision-Making Club (SADD), and A World of Difference Club (AWOD) are sponsoring a virtual 5K Joy Run/Walk/Wheel event to raise awareness about mental illness and mental wellness during the high school’s Mental Health Awareness Week. Our goals are to help fight the stigma that accompanies mental health issues, provide support, educate and advocate for the support of people with mental illness, their families, while enhancing the mental wellness of our community. 

This is a free event. We are asking in lieu of a registration fee that you make a donation in any amount to Response Crisis Center. Donations by check payable to Response Crisis Center will be accepted by Lynette Murphy, Bellport High School Social Worker and COMPASS Unity Coalition Project Coordinator as well. The first 100 people to register for the walk will receive a free COMPASS Unity Coalition water bottle, t-shirt or draw string bag.

COMPASS Unity Youth Coalition (CYC) is made up of a group of youth who have the common goal of educating the community and their peers about the effects that alcohol and substance use has in our community. CYC empowers youth through education and activities that promote healthy lifestyles and attitudes. 

SADD stands for Students against Destructive Decision Making- SADD club focuses on awareness initiatives regarding traffic safety, mental health, and alcohol and drug prevention. SADD's goal is to empower youth to make healthy and educated decisions.

AWOD stands for A World of Difference- AWOD Club focuses on helping people recognize bias and the harm it inflicts on individuals and society, build understanding of the value and benefits of diversity, improve intergroup relations, confronting racism, anti-Semitism and all other forms of bigotry. AWOD's goal is to promote inclusivity and acceptance of all people.
