Description

NYSVR434 - AT

New format! Get out and hit the trails!

September 15, 2021 through December 31, 2021

Hit the trails from Western NY and Central New York and track your progress along the first 434 miles of the AT.

Two categories for participants:

1) Hike/Walk - In the spirit of the AT, we ask that these participants actually hike in one of the many parks or trails in the surrounding areas, or just walk on surface streets if trying to accumulate more mileage.  We've loaded some of the popular hiking areas as activities so you can track your miles by them.  Let us know if there are others your would like added.

2) Run - for those that want the challenge of accumulating as many running miles as possible. Run wherever you would like.

Teams

Teams

For those not wanting to take on the challenge all by yourself, you can also form 2 person "relay" teams.  Each person contributes distance and time to the events as they choose. These are combined into a total for each race, each person shares in the completion of a race.

Each team member registers in the appropriate Relay Team category and creates or chooses your team.

Stuff For You

Shirts

Each person registered will receive a  custom race medal and race shirt in the size that you choose that we will ship to you. There will be a choice between men's and women's sizes.

Women's sizes are junior cut.  Please view the sizing chart below for women's sizing.

FEEDMORE OF WNY
MORE FOOD. MORE GOOD

We’ve come together to go further than plates and pantries. To put food on more tables. To provide companionship to more homebound neighbors. To inspire brighter futures for those who wish to provide for themselves. FeedMore WNY’s food bank (FB) and Meals on Wheels (MOW) programs have been feeding the Western New York community for a combined history of more than 90 years. In 2020, our feeding programs have served more than 16 million meals to homebound neighbors and through our nearly 300 pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters and other hunger-relief agencies throughout Erie, Niagara, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties.

Rules and FAQs

How does the NYSVR434 AT event work?
The Event provides a virtual course from The start of the Appalachian Trail at Singer Mountain to the Tennessee / Virginia border.
Run or walk/hike anywhere you like, recording your distance and time. Use the results page  (https://runsignup.com/Race/Results/107039) to enter the date of your activity, the distance covered, and the time it took.

How many miles are needed to complete the course?
The course, from end to end, is (surprise!) 434 miles. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS ALSO THE COMBINED TOTAL FOR TEAMS.

How does the Relay Team work?
Each team member registers in the appropriate Team category and creates or chooses your team.
Each person shares in the completion of the course by entering their distance and time on their personal activity entry form. These are combined into a total for each race.

Do I need a personal device (ie: Garmin, apple watch) or app (ie Strava) to record my times and upload to the website?
No, all activity can be manually recorded (you type it) through your activity entry form on the website.  There is also an option from that entry form to upload GPX, FIT, or TCX files from your personal devices.

Where can I find my activity entry form?
Your personal activity entry form is found from the Results page (Results button or https://runsignup.com/Race/Results/107039 ) and selecting "Submit Virtual Results".

What kind of miles can be counted?
Miles can only be counted when that is the primary activity engaged in and it is measurable.
- use a premeasured course.
- use a device (ie Garmin) that will measure distance.
- walk/hike or run and afterwards use google maps, mapmyrun, or plot-a-route to get distance.
- treadmills and bike trainer programs are allowed if they provide distance.
- NOT ALLOWED - daily steps accumulated on a fitness app or golfing, etc. - not primary activity.
- NOT ALLOWED - converted miles, ie: estimating how far you would have run based on how much time was spent biking.
- NOT ALLOWED - scooters, e-bikes, skate boarding, rollerblading, horseback riding, hang gliding, surfing, etc.
- ALLOWED - crawling, skipping, strolling on a measured course.

Can multiple entries be made in one day (ie: I ran twice)
Yes.

Can I correct an entry made in error?
Yes you can.  At the bottom of your activity entry form is a section for Previous Activities.  Press "Manage Activities" will display all your entries.  Edit or Delete by using the icons on the right of the activity.

Can I use any miles for runs, walks, or hikes done before September 15?
Sorry, no. Only activities performed between September 15 and December 31 can be counted.

Can I still enter miles if I missed a day or I signed up after the race start?
Yes, you can always go back to a prior day and enter your mileage. Be sure to change the completion date on the entry form.
