Description
Grist Iron Brewing Company and Southern Tier Running Club are partnering up to bring you the first ever Build-a-Beer Flight Challenge! The challenge is first and foremost meant to be F-U-N. We’re creating a day where you and your best buds can come up to the brewery, drink some awesome beer, and run around the property/woods to complete a combo of challenges that are both a little silly and a whole lot fun. The amount of competitive spirit is completely up to you!
The best part, you ask? You don't have to be a serious runner/athlete to sign up! This event is built for all levels of physical shape and activity. You can choose to run, walk, jog, skip, army crawl, barrel roll...whatever way you’d like to complete the course is fine by us 'cause everyone gets a free beer at the end regardless of how fast you go (saaa-weeeet!).
The course will be set up in a “scavenger hunt” style format and will include eight separate stations: four beer stations and four game stations. Each of the stations will be randomly positioned throughout the marked course area; all stations have to be completed, but don’t need to be done in a specific order. Depending on how you choose to complete the stations, you and your team could travel approximately 2-4 miles during the challenge.
Beer Stations:
5 oz pour per person, per station; each team member must drink a sample
- Campfire Lite Lager

FAQs
Is this a competitive run/race?
This challenge is first and foremost meant to be F-U-N. We’re creating a day where you and your buds can come up to the brewery, drink some awesome beer, and complete a combo of challenges that are both a little silly and a whole lot fun. The amount of competitive spirit is completely up to you!
How long is the course?
It depends!
Do I have to run the entire time?
Absolutely not (we can hear your sighs of relief!). Run, walk, jog, skip, army crawl, barrel roll...whatever way you’d like to get to the stations is up to you.
How much beer will I drink during the event?
2 ¼ beers total (woohoo!). The course includes four separate beer flight stations where participants will throw back one 5 oz pour of a different Grist Iron beer each time. Each participant will also receive a coupon for a free pint at the completion of the event.
What do I win?
You mean besides the sheer satisfaction of downing some cold, refreshing beer and the pure pride that comes from completing this challenge? Every participant will receive a long sleeve tech event shirt and a coupon for one free pint at the brewery. We’ll also have prizes for fastest team and best team uniform (and maybe one more super secret special award for the day of…).
Who can participate in the challenge?
Any person who’s at least 21 years or older with valid ID at check in. ‘Cause beer. Duh.
Can I complete the challenge by myself?
C’mon. Don’t be a hero. Teamwork makes the dream work, folks! This challenge requires teams of four people and can be made up of all guys, all gals, or a mix - any variation is cool with us.
Is the challenge timed?
The challenge will be timed since we have our “Will Run for Beer” award that will go to the team who completes the challenge in the fastest time. There will also be a set completion time where all teams will need to be back to the finish line. But don’t worry...you’ll have three total hours to complete everything if you want to take your time.
How important is my costume game?
Very. Bring your A-game ‘cause the best team uniform wins our Stylin’ & Profilin’ Award, which will get you some sweet GIB swag.
What should I wear?
Really? You’re asking us?! You’ve got options from Speedos to full on lederhosen...go online, get creative, and go all out - just keep it PG-13, alright?
Can I bring my own beer?
Nope. Outside alcohol of any kind is not allowed.
Should my friends and family come watch me?
Most definitely! You’re gonna need your squad cheering you on while you trek through the trails looking for that liquid beer gold.
What if I don’t want to participate?
If you’d rather sit this one out but still want to come hang, spectators are more than welcome to come watch/cheer and we’ll also need some volunteers to help out with the course. Reach out via email to STRCvolunteers@gmail.com and we’ll get ya signed up.
Intoxicated Participants
Grist Iron Brewing Company takes every measure to ensure that no one on site is over served or becomes severely intoxicated.
