Colon cancer is the second-leading cancer killer for both men and women in the United States. Although research has shown that screening for colon cancer saves lives, screening rates remain too low. Awareness of the need to screen for this preventable disease is urgently needed in our region. Toward that end, the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at the University of Rochester Medical Center is sponsoring the 4th Annual "Strollin' for the Colon" 5K Run/Walk on May 2, 2015 in Geneseo, NY. Proceeds from this event will go towards the development of cancer awareness programs through the University of Rochester's Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, the Livingston County Department of Health Cancer Prevention program and the Monroe County Cancer Services Program and also to support colon cancer research at Wilmot Cancer Center and other areas.
