Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Questions and Answers:

Q. Do I have to wear a swim buoy?

A.  Yes, it is required.

Q. Can I wear a wetsuit?

A. Yes, but if you start with it, you must finish with it.  Even if you were able to remove it in the middle of the river, there is no place to put it.

Q. Are fins allowed?

A. Yes, but if you start with them, you must finish with them.  Again, there is no place to put them if you take them off in the middle of the river.

Q. Will there be a bag drop off at Kingsland Point Park?

A. Yes, bags will not be allowed on the bus to Nyack.  We will have someone watching the bags while you are having fun in the river.

Q. Is there a time limit to complete the swim?

A. Swimmers have 3 hours to complete the swim.  You must be across the channel in two hours or you will be moved forward.

Q. Do we need our own kayak support?

A. No, but if you know someone who wants to volunteer as a kayaker, that would be awesome. The more, the merrier.  Have them register on RunSignUp.com. as a kayak volunteer.

Q. Will the course be marked?

A. Yes, there will be plenty of buoys outlining the course.  Occasionally, the buoys can move, so pay attention to the kayakers instructions.

Q. What about food?

A. There will be water available before the race and a light lunch afterwards.

Q.  Will there be any refunds for the event?

A. No, there will be no refunds.  However, if the Coast Guard cancels the swim due to inclement weather your registration will be carried over to our 2025 swim.

Q.  What is the minimum age to participate in the swim?

A.  The minimum age for a swimmer is 14 with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
