Strathmore is a city neighborhood in the southwest corner of Syracuse, NY. It is conveniently located minutes from Downtown, Armory Square, the Zoo, Syracuse University, and the DestiNY Mall. Most of the neighborhood homes were built in the 1920's and 1930's, but you will find some that date back to the early 1900's and a few that were recently built. A part of the Strathmore neighborhood that was originally known as Strathmore By-The-Park (about 200 homes bounded by Wellesley Rd to the east, north by Strathmore Dr, west by S. Geddes St, and south by Glenwood Ave) was designated as a Federal and New York State Historic District. This section joins Onondaga Park and a handful of individual homes in the neighborhood on the National Register of Historic Places. Notable landmarks within Strathmore include Onondaga Park, Most Holy Rosary Church, and the Woodland Reservoir. For more info on the Strathmore neighborhood, visit www.strathmoreneighborhood.org
The Strathmore Parks Run race is coordinated by the Greater Strathmore Neighborhood Association, whose mission is to preserve, promote, and protect the quality of life in the greater Strathmore area. A portion of the Parks Run proceeds will benefit the Greater Strathmore Neighborhood Association and area groups.
The Syracuse Parks Conservancy joins the Syracuse Parks Department to bring you Syrathon 2023! SYRATHON brings together 8 established road races, all based in the City of Syracuse and spaced throughout the calendar year, into this unique road race series! Syrathon’s eight race routes showcase Syracuse’s incredible and historic parks systems as participants journey through a number of wonderful city neighborhoods. Since 2009, the Series has encouraged, for both beginners and seasoned runners, healthful physical activity year-round, while promoting the sights and sounds of city life! In 2020 and 2021, Syrathon adapted to the challenges of Covid-19 with both virtual and in-person races, but in 202, we returned to our traditional Series with a full schedule of races!
The Syrathon Series Challenge again will challenge registered participants to accumulate at least 26.2 race miles over the course of the Series. Those who meet the challenge are known as Syrathoners, and will have earned the coveted Syrathon Medal! All registered participants receive a cool race shirt! And, there will be race day raffles for more great prizes!
