About The Organizations
Maria Fareri Children's Hospital
Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital is the advanced pediatric center for New York’s Hudson Valley region, caring for the community’s most seriously ill and injured children.
The hospital was named for 13-year-old Maria Fareri, who in 1995 died tragically from rabies. Her parents, Brenda and John Fareri, wanted to honor her memory by helping to fulfill a wish she had expressed for “the health and well-being of all the children in the world.” They channeled their grief into spearheading the creation of a children’s hospital that would be truly child-friendly.
Maria Fareri Children's Hospital is an academic partner of New York Medical College. Their dedicated staff is involved in research, developing tomorrow's treatments, and training the pediatric healthcare providers of the future. We are also a proud member of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, a non-profit organization that raises funds and awareness for 170 member children’s hospitals across the U.S. and Canada.
Children's Home of Poughkeepsie
On January 21, 1847, a group of Poughkeepsie women called the Female Guardian Society met to form the Poughkeepsie Orphan House and Home of the Friendless to care for the poor, abandoned, and neglected in their communities, most especially the children. They believed that all children deserve a nurturing and caring environment. More than 178 years later, their work continues.
Today, the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie provides a full range of community-based and residential services, giving hope and healing to at-risk children throughout the country. The Home is licensed by the New York State Office of Children & Family Services, the New York State Office of Mental Health, and the New York State Department of Health.
In fiscal year 2024, the Home served approximately 1,791 children and their families.
🤔 FAQs
Absolutely! We have distances available for participants of all ages, and strollers are allowed.
We’d love to see your four-legged friends out on the trail! Just a reminder that all dogs must be leashed per trail rules. We also ask that you keep a mindful distance from other walkers/runners so everyone has a safe, trip-free experience.
For the first time this year, we are timing both the 1 Mile and 5K runs. This event remains focused on having fun while raising support for two very important organizations. The event is open to all paces, levels, and abilities, including walkers and children.
The shirts are 100% cotton, which will hold the color the best; however, they tend to shrink. We recommend sizing up if you are unsure.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds. However, all race proceeds are being donated directly to the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital & the Children's Home of Poughkeepsie.
Please bring any water or fuel you will need along the way, there will be no fuel/water along the course. There will be snacks waiting for you after the run!
We plan to run/walk rain or shine! We don't ever change our events based on a forecast. If needed, we may delay the start time in real time if conditions are too dangerous to run (think Thor-level thunder and lightning). Participants should use their own judgment for what feels safe for them.
There is usually a portable toilet at the Van Wyck trailhead.
