Photo Competition

 

Combine Two Activities; Running and Photography.

Enter For a Chance at Winning Cash Prizes.

Take your mobile phone or camera on your next run. Capture the history and landscape of Western New York as you run through it or as you pass it by.  Where is your favorite historic spot, architectural gem, monument, landscape or mural?  Send us a picture of you running; road, track, cross-country, trail—even on the treadmill. All qualify. Capture your next virtual race and where you ran it. Show us what it’s like for you, as you run during the pandemic of 2020. 

 

Photos MUST combine a Landscape, Citiscape, etc AND a Runner(s).

How it Works

1)  Take your picture!

Photos must include at least one person and be set in Western New York. For purposes of the competition, WNY as defined by Wikipedia as the westernmost region of the state of New York. It includes the cities of Buffalo, Rochester, Niagara Falls, Jamestown and the surrounding suburbs, as well as the outlying rural areas of the Great Lakes lowlands, the Genesee Valley, and the Southern Tier.

 

2)  Sign up for the competition!

Use the sign up button above to enter.  Your $15 entry (fees included) will allow you to submit 2 photos.  Please have your photos ready as they must be uploaded during this process.

 

3)  Submit your picture!

At the end of the sign up process, you will be presented with a Submit Your Photo button.  Click the button to begin the submission/upload process.  Please include the location of the photo in the comments.  If entering 2 photos, they must both be submitted at the same time.

 

 

Photo of the Day

GBTC will select a “Photo of the Day” to be displayed on social media. The daily photo selection is for promotional purposes and is not an indication of a winning photo.

Awards and Judging

All photos will be submitted to an independent group of judges from the Buffalo Museum of Science Photography Club. The top three photos will be awarded $150, $75 and $25 respectively. One cash award per photographer.

The top three photos plus the “best” photographs from all submitted will be compiled into a video collage. The video will be available for viewing on the GBTC website, YouTube and social media.

Photos will be judged based on creativity, location and practicing safe running and social distancing.   

Competition Rules

Photos must depict a scene in WNY and include at least one runner.

Photos must be taken by or at the direction of the submitter.  Photos previously used for commercial purposes are not allowed.

The processed images must reflect the truth of the original image.  No subjects can be added or removed from the image.  Basic adjustments to exposure, color and natural sharpening is permitted.

Only two photos per $15 entry fee is permitted.  If more than 2 photos are submitted for that entry, only the first 2 will be considered.

Photos must be submitted by August 15, 2020. Winners will be announced in late August. 

Entries must include your name and the location of the photo.

Contest judges may enter photos but are not eligible for prize money.

Submitted photos will become the property of GBTC and may be used on FB, Twitter and other social media for promotional purposes.  

The competition is open to residents and non-residents of WNY.  Entrants under 18 years of age must have permission of their parent or guardian. 

By entering the competition you agree to your photos being used on social media and GBTC’s website for promotional purposes.

By entering, you agree that you have obtained permission from the person(s) in the photo to use their likeness for this competition.
