RACE HAS CANCELED KEEP A LOOK OUT FOR AN EMAIL REGARDING REFUNDS
In keeping with advice and recommendations regarding COVID-19 from Governor DeWine and health officials to avoid large numbers of people interacting in close proximity to one another, The University of Akron stopped instruction at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 10 at all sites, including online and law classes. University is canceling all large events previously scheduled on campus from now until at least April 20. Please check back or check email for future updates.
Race Setup: 10 min swim in the Ocasek Natatorium (ONAT) at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, 20 min bike in Studio B, and 15 min run on the indoor track all in the Student Recreation and Wellness Center at the University of Akron (there will be a 10 min transition from swim to bike, and 5 min transition from bike to run).
Freebies: A Race T-Shirt with registration (T-Shirt cannot be guaranteed to individuals who register after 03/10/20, but it is likely we will still have sizes available). Handmade Medals for Top Three Collegiate and Top Three Age Group Finishers. Access to our potential race expo, featuring some of our teams sponsors. Post-race food provided as well.
Important Information: This is open to the public, you do not need to be a college student. The results will be based on how far you can go in the time given for each event, then weighted to give correct significance to all three events. Scores are calculated to give an accurate time (in minutes) of how you would perform in a sprint triathlon. Note: Waves will be scored by wattage for the bike portion due to the way our bikes calculate distance. Tentative waves will be sent out 6 days before the event, any changes made from there will be within the same hour requested in order to fit everyone in the waves. Enter through the ONAT doors where check-in, T-shirts and further directions for the race will be given. We recommend you get here 30 min before your start time to have plenty of time to check-in, see where the bike and run will be and start warm-up 10 min before your start time for the swim.
New This Year: This year we will be offering relay heats. If you and two friends want to try a triathlon, you'll be able to select your discipline of choice, and try to be the best team to compete! We are also excited to announce our new endorsement by our race's new co-host, The University of Akron's Student Recreation and Wellness Center. We have used their nationally acclaimed facilities the previous two years for our race, and we now have their full backing and endorsement of the race!
Relay Information: If you want to create a relay team, each member must register individually (or be registered individually by a team captain/administrator). During the registration process you will have the opportunity to select your group/team, which is how we know who is on which relay team. All relay participants still get a t-shirt with registration, as well as all other race benefits.
Notice To Minors: Minors must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian to sign a minor participation wavier. This wavier can also be emailed to participants to fill out at home. Please reach out to us with questions.
