This September, Ashley Citron will be running the Berlin Marathon in Germany as a member of Fred’s Team, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for Memorial Sloan Kettering and rare cancer research. This will be Ashley's 3rd marathon and third race she has run as a Fred's Team member! For Ashley, this race is about more than a shiny medal and a trip abroad, it's about trying to change the world.
In January of 2016, Ashley’s mother Jill was diagnosed with leiomysarcoma, a rare cancer and was a patient at MSK. She took part in 2 clinical trials which wouldn't have been possible without funds raised by Fred's Team.
In 2020, Ashley’s father Eric was diagnosed with advanced basal cell cancer, a rare and metastatic form of skin cancer, and was treated with immunomodulators that were discovered at MSK and their rare cancer research teams.
Ashley, as well as all Fred’s Teams members, believe that a world without cancer is one to strive for. Please join her by walking, running, biking, roller blading, crawling, etc for this amazing cause. This 5k can be completed at your leisure, whenever you want, however you want by 9/25, the day in which Ashley will run her race in Berlin!
A virtual race is similar to a regular race with some differences that many people prefer:
1. You pick the date and time: Complete a 5K (3.1 miles) whenever and wherever suits you! There is no early race time or annoying parking situation; simply complete the distance and upload your time to the website!
2. Pick who you do (or don’t) run with: You can make this a family activity, weekend stroll at the beach or an excuse for some alone time. With a virtual race there’s no one trying to cut you off on the side walk or walking immediately at the start (IYKYK)
3. You chose the race course fuel: Want some water to hydrate? Go for it. Want to make it a beer mile? Drink one for us. Want to have a donut to commemorate each mile? More power to you! Make this what you want it to be! We’re just happy you’re here!
