Thurber House and the Green Lawn Cemetery are partnering to celebrate the work of James Thurber and his dog Muggs. Join us for the people and dog friendly 5K run/walk to support the work of the Thurber House.
Run or walk among the 200 year old trees and 170 years of Columbus history at Green Lawn Cemetery - Ohio's second largest! Participants will also enjoy a special SNEAK PEAK of our newest art installation - a life-sized bronze of Muggs, The Dog Who Bit People, at the grave of writer James Thurber. This will be the first public showing of this statue sponsored by the Green Lawn Cemetery Foundation - the official unveiling isn't until the next morning! Leashed dogs are welcome to run with you - get a "selfie" of your "Muggs" and ours! Proceeds will be split to support Thurber House and to pay for the statue's granite base.
This event will be manually timed with timing results posted to the registration site.
There will only be race day packet pickup starting at 5:30PM, near the start and finish line. Please arrive well in advance of the actual race start time to avoid last minute check-in. We are excited to work with our sponsors to provide a fun human and pet friendly experience. If you are bringing your dog, we ask that you keep your dog on a leash at all times and closely monitor the interaction with other dogs. We want to help keep the cemetery clean, so please clean up after your dog... if necessary.
We will recognize the top Overall male and female finishers and the top Age Group finishers.
Age Groups:
The 5K course is all in the beautiful Green Lawn Cemetery, on paved roads. The course will pass by many places of interest, which include the Wolf Monument and the Thurber Family lot.
