Running in Someone Else's Shoes Virtual 5K & 1 Miler

Mon June 8 - Sun June 14

Description

Organized by The RUNegades and Run Happy Lehigh Valley, Running in Someone Else's Shoes seeks to raise money and awareness for the movement for racial equality and criminal justice reform. Run or walk 3.1 miles any time during the week of June 8th-14th, submit your time and, if you'd like, upload your route, photos, and story to be a part of our virtual community on our Facebook Event Page HERE.

More Than Just a Run
In the fight for equality and reform, it's important that we do more than simply go for a run or post a hashtag, so RISES will provide three ways for you to take ACTIONABLE STEPS.

1. 96%** of every donation you make (or ask your friends to make) will go to Color of Change,
the nation’s largest online racial justice organization. From colorofchange.org: "We help people respond effectively to injustice in the world around us. As a national online force driven by 1.7 million members, we move decision-makers in corporations and government to create a more human and less hostile world for Black people in America."
**Our registration partner, GiveSignUp, charges a 4% processing fee. Neither RUNegades nor Run Happy Lehigh Valley will keep any of the money raised.

2. We challenge you to complete the activity with someone who has a different perspective from your own.
While practicing proper social distancing, do your miles with a friend of a different race, gender, socio-economic class, or sexual orientation, and consider some of the conversation starters we'll provide. If you don't have anyone to run with who isn't like you (a conversation-starter itself) or if you prefer to go solo, we'll provide a curated list of podcasts that will introduce you to new and different perspectives on the matter of social justice in America.  Click this LINK  for resources from conversation starters, to books, to Podcasts, to businesses you can support.

3. After the run, we'll invite you to join the next RUNegades Talk About Race zoom conversation, a challenging, thoughtful, honest discussion, that inspires us to learn, educate others, and--most importantly--follow through on actions that will help foster a better understanding of how race affects our lives and the lives of all those in our shared community.
