GETTING TO THE RACE:

The Start/Finish line and check-in table are located at the intersection of Riverview Drive, Riverview Avenue, and the Davis Avenue trail, at this link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/GkgSgYp1WMBqT2KZ7

YES, parking is allowed roadside RIVERVIEW AVENUE near the Start/Finish Line! Additional parking about .2 miles from the Start/Finish at the Riverview Pump Track!

Please, if at all possible, attempt to limit the number of vehicles that you arrive in! Please also just park like a reasonable person wherever you end up, thanks!!! (The Northside Nemesis is not responsible for towed or ticketed vehicles!)

-----

STARTING THE RACE:

-All runners are individually timed with a rolling start time of 8am - 9am (with a hard cutoff); there is no group start time for the race.

-We encourage runners to attempt to run the race when there are as many other runners as possible on the course, and thereby suggest that:

-Those who believe they will finish faster than others start later.

-Conversely, if you believe it will take you longer, we suggest an earlier start.

Please note, this is only a suggestion, and anyone can start at any time between 8am - 9am (with a hard cutoff at 9am).

-When you are ready to begin your race, you will follow these 3 steps:

1. Choose a gold numbered tag at the Start/Finish check-in table

2. Tell the volunteer your name and show them your tag number

3. The volunteer will enter your tag number and confirm your start!

-----

ALONG THE ROUTE:

-Directional signage will be located often along the route: directing runners to turn left, right, or continue straight. Any overgrown or trail sections will bear yellow flags that mark the route. (The route will be adequately marked, with an average of 14-15 directional markers per mile!)

-The GPX File for the route may be downloaded at www.NorthsideNemesis.com (the box in the top right corner on the map) for devices that can utilize this type of data). The route is also available to preview or follow along with the map here: www.NorthsideNemesis.com

-Drinks and light pre-race snacks will be provided at the beginning, but we highly encourage utilizing whatever water-carrying device you enjoy most for this event.

-There are 2 aid stations located along the route (around miles 6.5 and 11.8) that will have drinks and snacks, with additional water resources for refilling personal containers.

-There are no official restrooms along the route, but as it is an urban setting for the full duration of the race, numerous facilities and their resources can be found adjacent to the course in the case of an emergency.

-That said, we strongly encourage having a means of communication available to yourself for this event. We do not have any medical support for this event, nor the resources to assist with runners that Do Not Finish — but, as stated, the route is urban and can be accessed anywhere by friends or family for assistance, or ride-sharing options.

-Please Note: the route crosses several LARGE traffic intersections, all of which are dangerous if proper caution is not applied. While this is a race, please utilize sidewalks, crosswalks, and adhere to standard pedestrian traffic rules when crossing ANY intersection. Yes, stopping to wait to hear “Walk Signal Is On” is highly encouraged in this race!

-Also Note: the condition of each staircase varies wildly, from relatively new construction to disrepair and decay. Please use caution on all of these staircases, from the tallest to the tiniest!

-And As Well, Note: This is a race through neighborhoods that everyday Pittsburghers drive through, work in, and especially, live in. This route finds stairs and walkways and alleys that cut close to many folks personal property, so we ask all to be respectful of those around them that inhabit this space. Thank you!

FINISHING THE RACE:

-When you arrive at the finish line, here are the steps to take to finalize your race:

1. Locate the Start/Finish check-in table

2. Show/tell the volunteer your tag number

3. The volunteer will confirm your finish!

4. (Keep the tag! Great Job!)

-We will have post-race refreshments that will extend as late as 2pm (a 5-hour finishing window for any 9am starters), feel free to stick around and socialize as folks come across the finish!

-As with last year, there is no podium or ceremonial aspect to this event. While we do recognize extraordinary individual achievement, we don’t have any additional trinkets to celebrate it. For this race, finishing is enough!
