Description
At Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM), our mission is to "serve society using a community-based, patient-centered, interprofessional and evidence-based model." As part of our commitment to the community, we are organizing the 15th annual Turkey Trot 5K/10K walk/run to benefit Friends of the Poor.
This year’s event will take place Sunday, November 3rd! The race takes place in downtown Scranton, starting at the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine and makes its way down to the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail. The race will start at 8am.
Support the community by registering for our 5K walk/run for $30 or our 10K walk/run for $40. Online registration will remain open until November 1st at noon, but you will also be able to register for the event on-site for an increased price.
We encourage everyone to pick-up their race material on Saturday, November 2nd from noon to 4 PM in the GCSOM lobby (525 Pine Street).
The event will also include a Tiny Trot, which will feature a fun Turkey Trot relay for kids of all ages! Additionally, there will be supplies provided for a themed craft to be completed on race day!
Turkey Trot benefits Friends of the Poor, a non-profit agency that has served the Scranton area since 1986. The organization seeks to ease the burden of living in poverty and enhance the quality of life for all. They operate eight food pantries throughout the county, as well as offer clothing, furniture, household items, utility assistance, medical transportation, summer camps, after-school programs, among other programs.
More information about other ways to support Turkey Trot and Friends of the Poor, T-shirt pickup and the award ceremony will be posted at geisinger.edu/TurkeyTrot.
