A Breeze of Hope's Annual March Against Sexual Violence

Annually on August 9th, Bolivia's National Day of Solidarity with Victims of Sexual Violence, A Breeze of Hope hosts its March Against Sexual Violence through Cochabamba, Bolivia. This year, you're invited to join us virtually!

This annual event was founded by A Breeze of Hope and its Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Brisa De Angulo. 

As a girl, Brisa suffered months of sexual abuse at the hands of an adult family member. After refusing to stay silent about her abuse, she endured tremendous pain and violence. She struggled in the court system for years in her efforts to bring her abuser to justice. Members of her own community made several attempts on her life, including setting her house on fire twice. She attempted suicide twice.

But, Brisa was a survivor. She was determined to turn her horrible experience into hope for others.

In the summer of 2004, she founded A Breeze of Hope to provide free legal, social, and psychological services to victims of sexual violence, to eradicate sexual violence through transdisciplinary prevention strategies, and to foster a society that encourages healthy and comprehensive childhood development. A Breeze of Hope is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that prevents sexual violence, restores the lives of child and adolescent survivors of sexual violence, and promotes healthy childhood development. 

Through A Breeze of Hope, Brisa tirelessly advocated for the official, government recognition of sexual assault survivors and their rights. Through this advocacy work, Bolivia's National Day of Solidarity with Victims of Sexual Violence and A Breeze of Hope's Annual March Against Sexual Violence were born. August 9th was chosen because it was the date that Brisa's own case was first heard in court.
