It is with disappointment, sadness, and frustration that we wanted to let you know that the Town of Jamestown has rescinded our event permit for this September. They will not allow us to host an in-person event on Sept 19. While we had created a Coronavirus Safety Protocol plan that met the State Requirements, the Jamestown Town Council voted to disallow any events with more than 50 participants for the foreseeable future. We truly believed that we would have been able to create a safe and fun event for you in Jamestown, and we are more than saddened to be dealt with this blow. The Jamestown Rhode Race will now be a virtual event. In the past few weeks, our technology and knowledge have grown exponentially to create fun and engaging virtual events. We have participated in a few virtual events personally and have found them to be a solid way to still attain our fitness goals, be competitive, and part of a community. They are certainly different from our traditional experiences with races, but they are serving as an excellent replacement until races can come back fully.
The virtual event will be open from September 1st to September 30th, in which time you can complete your race and submit your results. During the month of September, the virtual event will host these many amenities:
* Race swag mailed in the last week of September to include the official medal, race gaiter, 13.1 sticker, and custom bib
* Official Rhode Races playlist on iTunes
* Weekly contests and raffles
* Virtual custom bib and finisher certificate
* Online results page
* Milestone badges achieved for your RSU Virtual Trophy Case
* RaceJoy app that includes progress alerts, auto-posting of finishing times to results page, choice of running anywhere or the Jamestown course (which will include a few historical queues) and athlete tracking.
It is important to note that any event that is able to be held in-person in these times will be vastly different from a traditional road race. There will be participant caps, minimal aid, no post-race festivals, etc. We know that many will want to wait to race until the world is a safer place. To that end, our transfer and deferral policy is quite liberal. For any registration entry fees paid for in-person events, you are able to use these race credits for another event of ours, up to 2022. We have waived any processing fees for this service for the remainder of 2020.
If you do not wish to join us virtually, you are able to defer your entry fee to either 2021 or 2022. Allowing for a 2-year deferral is new to us, but we would rather enhance your options as we continue to battle against these setbacks. You will have until August 15 to opt for the deferral. To defer your registration, please visit RunSignUp.com/profile and select Manage My Registration next to the Jamestown race, and then select Defer My Registration at the top. If you opt for the deferral, the entry fee paid is translated into race credits in which you can apply that amount to any race in our portfolio in either 2021 or 2022. You do not have to make a selection at this time. The race credits would be applied to the entry fee posted at the time you complete the registration for the new race.
Again, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at email@example.com. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this incredibly difficult time.
~Susan and Karen
