Every Ability Welcome!
All abilities are welcome at the Run for All Children!
While we call it a “run,” participants are invited to run, walk, roll, move, wheel, or be wheeled—whatever works best for them. Our goal is to create an event where everyone can participate in a way that feels comfortable, supported, and joyful.
Run organizers and Foundation staff collaborate with colleagues across the hospital system to make the event as inclusive and accessible as possible. If you or someone in your group would benefit from a specific accommodation, we welcome the conversation and will do our best to support your participation.
If you have questions or would like to request accommodations, please contact us at achfoundationevents@jhmi.edu.
Participation Without Pressure
We believe participation should feel encouraging and flexible for every individual.
Participants are welcome to move at their own pace, take breaks, shorten their distance, or simply enjoy the event atmosphere. Finishing times are not the focus—contributing to and participating in the experience is what matters most.
Families, caregivers, and support partners are welcome to participate together so that everyone can take part in a way that feels comfortable and meaningful.
Participants with Mobility Needs
- Participants with mobility needs for the 5K may request custom placement within their pace and age category for a smoother and more comfortable start. Please contact us in advance if this would be helpful.
- For the 1 Mile, we will have an adaptive lane available.
- Participants are welcome to bring and use their own mobility equipment, including wheelchairs, walkers, hand cycles, or other devices that support participation.
- A limited number of adaptive tricycles will be available.
- To inquire about reserving an adaptive tricycle or have specific needs to discuss with our race organizers, please contact achfoundationevents@jhmi.edu.
Participants Using Adaptive Equipment
- Participants using adaptive or assistive equipment are welcome throughout the course.
- Our team will do our best to ensure the course and event areas remain clear and navigable for participants using adaptive equipment.
Participants with Sensory Needs
- Our Finish Line Fest will feature a Sensory-Friendly Tent in 2026 for participants who may benefit from a quieter, lower-stimulation environment.
- Participants are welcome to bring their own sensory supports.
- A limited number of sensory kits will be available on site, which may include:
- Noise-reducing headphones
- Fidget items
- Sunglasses or eye masks for light sensitivity
- Simple visual supports or communication cards
Guides, Caregivers, and Service Animals
- Participants are welcome to participate alongside guides, caregivers, or support partners who assist them on the course.
- Service animals are welcome, in accordance with ADA guidelines.
- If a participant requires a guide or support runner, please contact us in advance so we can help ensure a smooth start and overall experience.
Course Accessibility
- Our course is designed to be as accessible and inclusive as possible, using City of St. Petersburg closed streets to accommodate walkers, wheelchairs, strollers, and adaptive equipment.
- Please note, the Finish Line Fest takes place on level turf (an athletic field) with standard size city sidewalks leading into the field.
- The event welcomes participants moving at all speeds and participation styles.
- Water stations, volunteers, and rest areas will be located along the course and throughout the event space to support participants and families.
- If you have questions about course conditions or accessibility details, please reach out to us at achfoundationevents@jhmi.edu.
Our Commitment
We believe the Run for All Children should be a place where every participant feels welcome, respected, and celebrated. If there is a way we can better support your participation, please let us know. We are always open to learning and improving so that everyone can take part in this special event.
