Navigate the city like a Philly Native
We know, transportation in a new place can be tough. Here's some different transportation options to help you navigate the city like a pro
Public Transportation
SEPTA provides you with several transportation options. Travel around the busiest parts of the city using the subway, trolleys, and buses, or go a little further with the regional rail. The subway, trolley, and buses each cost $2.50 (exact change) per trip. Regional rail trips from Suburban Station to the Airport cost $6.75 before boarding or $8.00 once aboard. Planning on taking multiple trips? Get a SEPTA key and load it with some travel money. Each trip with a Septa Key costs $2 and is valid everywhere EXCEPT regional rail. Looking to go East or West? Hop on the Market-Frankford line from the City Hall subway stop. This will take you to Old City, home of some of the nation's oldest historic landmarks.
Taxis and Rideshare
Philadelphia taxis are visibly marked and easy to hail anywhere around center city. Taxi cost is a combination of both the distance traveled and the time in the car, accepting both cash and credit payment options. Uber and Lyft are both widely available throughout the city and are typically able to pick you up within a few minutes.
Rental Cars
A lot of you may be coming from out of town and want to rent a car. Unless you are dead-set on renting a car for the days you are in the city, we wouldn't suggest it. Parking in a Center City Garage will be $20+ per day and it can be difficult to find street parking. When you do find street parking, you are going to have to take a trip to your parking meter every few hours. If you are renting a car, there are several rental agencies available at the Philadelphia Airport and around the city
Indego: Bike Share
Philadelphia uses the Indego bike-share program. You can rent a bike 24/7 at one of the many docking stations around the city. You can pay $15 per day for unlimited trips under 60 minutes via a phone app. Once you reach your location, make sure your bike is locked back into the docking station. Also, remember that in Center City you aren't allowed to ride your bike on the sidewalk.
