The eleventh annual Virtual Running of the Turkeys through downtown York will take place virtually during the week of Thanksgiving from November 21 to November 28. First Presbyterian and Trinity United Methodist churches will host the event.
A Virtual Race is a 5K race you can run/walk at any location, at your pace, outside or on a treadmill, alone or with a group of friends. Train and stay active and run for a good cause. Your race packet includes your print at home bib and a certificate of completion when you finish and mark your results on the website. There will not be a t-shirt giveaway this year, but there is a beanie for the first 250 that you can pick up in York during race week.
Running of the Turkeys was founded in 2010 by local runners and church members wanting to bring a family-friendly Thanksgiving run to York’s historic downtown and to give runners an opportunity to give back to their community.
Because we are experiencing a unique situation during the 2020 race year, the directors felt it was in the best interest of the runners to complete the race virtually. We wanted to continue to offer support to our local aid recipients in this time of need.
Runners will be able to drop off non perishable items to donate to PATH in downtown York during the month of November. Mellon Insurance will collect the items and deliver to PATH.
People Attempting to Help, or PATH, will receive the proceeds and donations along with the Grace and Mercy Soup Kitchen of the Wesley United Methodist. With partner grocery stores buying less food and therefore donating less, PATH’s inventory is at an all time low, while its client base continues to grow. Started in 1982 by the Western York County Christian Ministers Association, PATH has been serving the citizens of York and its outlying environs for 25 years. The not for profit organization includes a food pantry and associated thrift store and provides emergency aid for utilities and other needs for those in crisis.
