Mettle Run

The 2014 Mettle Run is in honor of a 7 year old boy named Austin.  When Austin was 3 years old, he lost all four of his limbs due to a rare form of meningitis.  Now Austin needs a handicap accessible home that will allow him to grow and be as independent as possible.  This home will allow him to do things such as take a shower, turn on lights, open doors… and many other things that are part of everyday life.  Mettle is “a person’s ability to cope well with difficulties or to face a demanding situation in a spirited and resilient way.”

A group of individuals from Tea, South Dakota formed a group called ‘A Home for Austin.”  Individuals and businesses from the surrounding areas have joined together to donate funds, materials, and labor to build this little boy a new home.

Valley Exchange Bank and Exchange Insurance Agency is one of those donors.  They are sponsoring the 2014 Mettle Run and ask you to show your METTLE for Austin by joining one of the events!  In addition to sponsoring the race, they are challenging all businesses to test their mettle by joining together and matching Valley Exchange Bank and Exchange Insurance Agency corporate donation of $5,000!

The Mettle Run will consist of 4 events.  A Half Marathon, a 5K, a Fun Walk/Run and a Pancake Feed.

The Half Marathon will start in Lennox, South Dakota where High School students of the Industrial Arts class built the main floor of the home.  It will finish in Tea, South Dakota which is where Austin and his family will live!

The 5K and Fun Walk/Run will be in Tea, South Dakota – starting and ending at the Tea City Park.

Bring your appetites!  Tea Historical Society will be cooking up all you can eat pancakes and sausages.

All proceeds will go to A Home for Austin!
