2026 Spring in the Park Medal
The 2026 design pays tribute to the State of Ohio's flower, the Trillium!
The Trillium isn’t just beautiful; it has a fascinating life story.
Fun fact: Trillium seeds are actually dispersed by ants. Each seed has a nutrient-rich attachment called an elaiosome, which ants love. They carry the seeds back to their colonies, enjoy the elaiosomes, and then discard the remaining seeds in ideal spots for new trilliums to grow. It’s a natural partnership that helps these spring ephemerals thrive.
