WALK FAQ

GENERAL QUESTIONS

Is this a race? No. This is an awareness walk for fun and fellowship. There will be no timing or placing.

Who can participate in the Walk? This event is for everyone! All ages welcome. 

Do I have to register in order to Walk?
Yes, all walkers and attendees must register and sign a standard waiver when registering. 

How much does it cost?

Early Bird (March 15th - May 13th) 

Late Bird (May 14th - June 7th)

    • The registration fee is $14. T-shirts are not guaranteed for pick up on walk day. However, T-shirts will be mailed ASAP. You may also choose to buy deluxe ride bracelets at check out for $16 each. 

Does every walker get a T-shirt?
Every participant who signs up as an Early Bird registrant will receive a walk T-shirt. T-shirts will be available for pick up on walk day. To be able to get a T-shirt on race day, register on or before May 13th.

Where do the funds go?
All funds raised through the Step Up for Dyslexia walk will support the Decoding Dyslexia Oregon's mission to raise dyslexia awareness, empower families to support their children and inform policy-makers on best practices to identify, remediate and support students with dyslexia in Oregon. With your support, this event will rally families, friends, and tutors, educators and dyslexia related providers as we work together to achieve our mission and create change for children and adults with dyslexia in our community. Our goal is to use the funds to create new chapters across Oregon. Decoding Dyslexia Oregon is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Do I have to wear a costume? Superhero costumes are encouraged. Create your own costume or purchase a ready-made (cape and mask set) when you register for the event. All cape and mask sets will be available for pick up at the event.  

How do I raise money for Decoding Dyslexia? 
Register as an individual fundraiser or join/create a fundraising team. For more information Click Here.

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

* Best team costume 
* Most unique individual costume
* Most donations raised by an Individual Fundraiser
* Most donations raised by a Fundraising Team

What happens if it rains?
The walk is a rain or shine event. However, in the case of severe weather, we will cancel. If this is the case, we will update our Walk homepage on or before the morning of the event.  We will be unable to provide refunds due to cancellation as this is a fundraising event. 

Food and drinks?

  • Before the Walk: fruit, energy bars, and bottled water will be provided. 
  • After the Walk: bring a picnic and snacks or purchase food from Oaks Park.

Can I bring my pet? Dogs are welcome, they must be leashed and attended to at all times. Owners must clean up after their dogs.

Is the day of Registration Allowed? No. The last day to register online is June 7th, during LATE BIRD registration.
