Want to be a part of the graffiti Run Des Moines but don't feel like jogging? Join the Graffiti Squad and pelt people with color; join the Registration team and help check in the soon to be colorful Graffiti Runners on race-day; or join one of the pre-race volunteer opportunities to help us setup the event on 8/16!

If you join one of the pre-race opportunities we will reward your work with a free registration to the Graffiti Run Des Moines! Limited spots available! You will receive your free race registration after you volunteer the day before the event.

DAY OF THE EVENT VOLUNTEER CATEGORIES (does not earn you a free registration):

GRAFFITI SQUAD - So, you think you have what it takes to be on the Graffiti Squad? We’ll see about that. Do you have the desire to donate your time, energy, and special powers to the noble cause of drenching every Graffiti Runner you encounter with as much color as possible? Do you have the skill to apply said color strictly below the neck of our Graffiti Runners, ensuring only minimal color hits their precious faces? Are you prepared to be covered yourself in beautiful color (because the Graffiti Squad is no place for chromophobes)? Do you promise to wear the  Graffiti Run shirt you receive for your service at least six days a week? Did you stand up and scream “YES!” to every one of these questions? If so, there just might be a place on the Graffiti Squad for you. GRAFFITI SQUAD ASSEMBLE!

Hours - Usually, no later than 7:00am -11:30am

H20 SQUAD - Yes, our colorful participants will be running and therefore they will be thirsty.  If you want to be the most desired volunteer out on the course then the H20 SQUAD is for you.    It will be up to our H20 squad to keep the graffiti runners moving and hydrated. Please keep in mind you will also be responsible for clean up of the water bottles in your section.

Hours - Usually, no later than 7:00am -11:00am

REGISTRATION/CHECK-IN - You shall not Pass!  That is right, no one will be admitted to run the Graffiti Run the day of the event without coming to see YOU or your team!  Here you will be responsible for collecting waivers, checking ID's, checking for completion of registration, handing out bibs/shirts/headbands & delegating any hard questions to the race director present in your area.

Hours - Usually, no later than 7:00am -11:00am

STORE/COLOR PACK - This group will be responsible for distributing the Graffiti Run Gear and Graffiti Color Packs to participants at the end of the race!

Hours - Usually, no later than 7:00am -11:00am

PRE-RACE DAY VOLUNTEER CATEGORIES: ( LIMITED AVAILABILITY: These volunteers will get free registration to The Graffiti Run)

PRE-PACKET PICK-UP - This is just like Registration in Check-In duties, but this will be the day before the race, so you can still run for free the day of the race.

Hours - This varies and depends if there is a packet pick up in the city or not.

What is the Graffiti Run? The Graffiti Run will be the most colorful day of your life. Bold statement, we know (especially if you lived through the 70’s or ever owned a hyper-color t-shirt), but just hear us out. First off, we use the term “run” loosely here at the Graffiti Run. Our 5K course is more about having a blast with friends and family than it is about busting out four-minute miles. So feel free to run, walk, dance, crawl, roll, piggy-back ride, or summersault your way through the color madness. Secondly, the no-six-pack-required course means the Graffiti Run is for EVERYONE (unless you hate color or smiling, then you are not invited). You will see green grand-parents next to pink college students. Yellow marathon runners alongside blue children. Orange moms next to purple unicorns*. We only have two rules: you must get absolutely drenched in color and have an amazing time.

*unicorns not guaranteed

How does it work? Oblivious to Labor Day law, you arrive at the starting line in all the white clothing you could find in your closet: white shirt (mandatory), white shorts (not mandatory, yet encouraged), white socks (are there any other kind?), white cape (yes!), white tuxedo (you should save that for your wedding). In your white duds you take off from the starting line like a pristine canvas, ready to become a beautiful, jogging piece of art. Throughout the course you encounter “Graffiti Zones” where our diabolical team of volunteers, staff, sponsors and leprechauns will douse you with COLOR. First green, then red, then orange, then pink, and then at the finish line a grand finale of color that will leave you feeling (and looking) like you just traveled the craziest three miles of your life.
What is the color in The Graffiti Run? The color powder at The Graffiti Run is simply the single most powerful source of happiness on the planet. You need more details? Fine. Our color powder is a non-toxic, non-rash inducing corn starch based product. It is 100% natural and safe.

What happens after the Graffiti Run? The color shenanigans continue long after the finish line is in your color-stained rear view mirror at our post-5K Color Party! This is where your color limit is truly put to the test, as periodic “color explosions” rock the party site. Music, food, festivities, and color will be available to cap off the most colorful day of your life!
