Meet our 2018 Strut Warrior Family :

---The Imig's ---

About 5 years ago we entered the hospital to have what every parent hopes for, a healthy baby. Within an hour of Beckham being born he was diagnosed with a collapsed lung and about 10 hours later an ultrasound revealed a blockage in his bladder. The end result: Stage 2 Chronic Kidney Disease and a Neurogenic Bladder. Our lives changed that day, but not in the way we were expecting. When your world changes like that in the blink of an eye and you've gone from a smitten parent to what feels like a crash course of a registered nurse in a few hours I have one word for you: Lonely. This is why our heart for NW Kidney Kids is so huge. It's a place where all things kidney can be learned about, talked about and celebrated. A place for parents to lean on one another and for kidney kids to feel heard and accepted, not to mention a place where siblings get to be loved on too.

Beckham turns 5 in August and thankfully he's pretty stable in early stage 3 of CKD. He sees his nephrologist and urologist several times a year and gets lots of "pokes," which are not his favorite. With the combination of amazing doctors and the NW Kidney Kids program, we have definitely been able to soak up many good days and wonderful experiences that help us get through the hard times. A favorite memory of Beckham's was getting to go onto the court of the Blazer game with other Kidney Kids and siblings for the National Anthem. A memory that my mama heart will always hold dear is showing up to the first annual Strut Your Kidney with a stroller to push Beckham in the 1 Mile Fun Run and HE RAN THE ENTIRE MILE. NW Kidney Kids teaches kids to be brave, shows parents what their kids are capable of and gives families support when you feel like you just can't do it on your own.
