Hayden’s Hope and the Quatina M. Wolaver Foundation of Hope are excited to announce the Firecracker Chase is back live and in color for 2021! For those still concerned about COVID-19 (or just want to run it, but don't live close), we are keeping the virtual options in place, as well! This is a classic road race that has been held on and off for several decades in the beautiful town of Fayetteville, TN. The last in-person Chase took place in 2018, and we were very much looking forward to bringing this fun little event back to Lincoln County on June 27, 2020, but in the interest of health and due to so many unknowns, we went the virtual route that year. But we are back in black, baby!
New Course! We are pumped to see how everyone likes what we have mapped out for 2021! This course will not be closed, so it would be advisable for you to keep both your ears and eyes open. Y'all pickin' up that sick beat I'm droppin'? I know you are...you see it on every race's page and summarily ignore it, but headphones drastically cut down your ability to hear traffic or a barking dog...and there will probably be both where we're running.
Weather If the June 26th date doesn’t already give it away, THIS IS A TRADITIONALLY HOT EVENT, and we ain’t just talkin’ the swag! Please be aware of this so you can train and plan accordingly. We'll run rain or shine...just not lightening.
Cutoff The course will be open for 3 hours. That equates to a 17:38/mile pace for the 10.2 miler - so, if you're a walker and want to tackle it at that pace or faster, we welcome you! If you're not back by 10, you'll be swept. The beautiful thing about doing one of the virtual events is that cutoffs don't exist! Take your time! Enjoy the stroll or throw down a PR - you can't mess this one up no matter what, and there will be no grim sweepers following and taunting you!
Awards PLAN A: We are very hopeful to have a traditional awards ceremony on our courthouse lawn across from our iconic movie theater at the conclusion of the race - if we do, we will have age group awards in 5 year increments for both events. We will also have our traditional Overall Winner (M & F) from Fayetteville, and Overall Winner (M & F) from anywhere. PLAN B: IF we are not allowed or don't think it's a wise choice to do an awards ceremony, we will mail out all awards. Boooo! Hissss! We know!
Virtual Participants will not be eligible for age group or overall awards. You will still get your shirt and handcrafted medal (10.2 milers only for the medals) and all our thanks, but have to toe the line to partake in the riches of the day.
SWAG! Each runner THAT IS REGISTERED BY JUNE 12th will receive a t-shirt. If you miss that date, you will not receive a shirt. Full stop. No extras will be ordered for the late registerers. All runners completing the 10.2 mile course will receive a handmade, one-of-a-kind Firecracker medal! Additionally, for everyone registered by June 12th, you have the option to take a $5 discount on your registration instead of a t-shirt (instead of a size, select -$5 in the t-shirt dropdown). And, let me say it again for those in the back: register by June 12th if you live for the free T! We will mail Ts & medals out for our virtual peeps. Now, let's talk biscuits! Would it even be a Firecracker Chase without 'em? We think not! Welcome to Fayetteville, where #bisuitsareswag! If you know, you know!
CUPLESS Aid Stations READ IT, KNOW IT, BE IT! We will not have cups at our aid stations this year. Your best bet is to plan now to carry your own hydration - you will be required to have some sort of drinking vessel with you when you start the race. Paper cup, hydropack, water bottle. We don't care, but our goal is to minimize waste and trash in and around our town...not to mention give our volunteers relief from picking up used paper cups. We will have coolers of water on the 5K course, and water and sports drink on the 10.2, but you'll need your own drinking apparatus to partake.
PLEASE NOTE: This race is NOT OPEN to strollers, baby joggers, or pets. Yes, beast mom that runs all her miles pushing her triplets, this means you! Push them babies another day, girl! Or you, bada$$ mom and dad team that take turns pushing the stroller - do the dang thang...just do it somewhere else! And you, person that LOVES THEIR DOG MORE THAN ANYTHING IN THE WORLD AND TAKES THEM EVERYWHERE! Take Fido (or Garfield or Ferret Fawcett or whoever) for a run on another day. We love all the pets, but not everyone shares that love (we're looking at you, Mr. Insurance Man), so please leave them at home!
FINALLY: Feel free to post any questions in the event discussion here. We want to see all your finisher pix with #biscuitsareswag, watch photos, and app screen shots posted there, Insta, or where ever you do your posting! We love you guys for bearing with us through last year and coming back in full force this year!
Proceeds from this race will benefit Hayden’s Hope and the Quatina M. Wolaver Foundation of Hope, which are both 501(c)3 organizations headquartered in Lincoln County, TN. Because of this a portion of your registration will be tax deductible.
