Description

Why do a virtual run?

There are no parking problems. No crowds. No long port-a-potty lines. There is no start gun or nervous, pre-race chitchat with other runners. Everyone can be the first place finisher.

Our virtual run is attached to a specific cause.

To help our Scouts find support and funding to do the many outdoor activities and camps that our troop provides.  In many of the cases, not every scout can afford to experience the outdoors at a distant camp or facility.  So we are raising money to make sure every scout in Troop 554 can participate in every event.

Want more information on scouting outdoor adventures?  Try this link.  https://www.scouting.org/outdooradventures/

Doing our virtual run is also a way to challenge yourself, meet specific goal(s), or just give yourself that extra boost you need to keep on going.

You never miss a race because you over slept or there was parking issues or traffic on the way. You can run anywhere that is convenient to you!

Runner Premiums:

  • Custom Scout-themed Finisher Patch
  • Printable Race Bib sent to your email you register with.
  • 10 % discount with live race on March 6th-  We Run Tx Scoutstrong 1K/5K (in person race)

"To carry out all the duties and work of a Scout

properly, one has to be strong, healthy, and active."

SCOUTStrong The Program:  The SCOUTStrong Healthy Living Initiative integrates active lifestyles, healthy eating, and emotional fitness into everything that the Scouts of America does through alliances, campaigns, and updated programs. links, open Council brochure link below and view the National website link below.  GET INVOLVED.  BE SCOUTStrong.

Scouts BSA is the traditional Scouting experience for youth in the fifth grade through high school. Service, community engagement and leadership development become increasingly important parts of the program as youth lead their own activities and work their way toward earning Scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout.

What we hope to achieve for our community and other communities from this virtual run?

We believe that the SCOUTStrong program will help enable Scouts, as well as their families, to adopt active, healthy lifestyles. The skills they're learning from this program will last them a lifetime. And when youth have their families, friends, and communities being active alongside them, they will increasingly follow in those footsteps.   It takes a village!

Youth do not get enough activity outdoors like they used to,

Research shows that children today spend less time outdoors and more time engaged in sedentary activity. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years. The SCOUTStrong program is designed to be a starting point for creating regular, active lifestyle habits and teaching young people to make healthier choices. The SCOUTStrong PALA Challenge award can be earned by Scouts as well as families, volunteers, staff, and scouting alumni.

To earn the SCOUTStrong PALA:

children need to be active 60 minutes a day, five days a week for six weeks; adults need 30 minutes a day. In the spirit of promoting a more active lifestyle among its professional staff, the BSA has organized a Sunrise Fun Run/Walk as part of its Top Hands meeting.

FAQ's

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Virtual Race?
A: Virtual races are just like traditional races, but ours has an activity patch added for your benefit.  You can still enjoy community and fun with a virtual race, but you can run, walk or hike your race wherever you want with whoever you want. Even on a treadmill! Racers report their time and then we send a medal to them for completing the race.

How much do the races cost?
A: Since our registrations are a la carte, you can choose the race you want to do.   If you would like a medal and t-shirt, registrations start at just $40 for the live race. The registration page can give you a better idea of specifics!

Do I have to do my race on Race Day?
A: In an ideal world, everyone would run on race day, but the beauty of virtuals is that you have the flexibility to do what works best for you. You can run before race day or after – as long as it is before September 30th, and your time is submitted before midnight of September 30th.

Where can I find more of your races to run?
A: Check out our schedule here:  https://runsignup.com/Race/TX/Crowley/TexasScoutStrong for our live race coming up March 6th, 2021.

Do you ship internationally?
A: Yes, we ship all over the world (anywhere that the United States Postal Service ships). There is a higher charge:

For 1 piece of swag ( patch) it is $7.00 for Canada and $11.00 for all other international.
For 2 pieces of swag (medal and shirt for live race) it is $12.50 for Canada and $17.50 for international.
To avoid issues, please select the appropriate shipping option when prompted on the registration page.

Which Charity do you donate to for the races? How much?
A: Our registration page tells you which nonprofit we are donating to which is to our Boy scouts of America Troop. All registration proceeds will go straight to the youth of Troop and Crew 554.

I haven’t received my Shirt/Medal/Bib yet in the mail. When will I receive it?
A: You can always get the best idea of when swag ships from the registration page and your original confirmation email. Sometimes that gets sent to spam, so if you find it there please mark us as “safe” so you can always get important race updates!

I haven’t received my Registration Confirmation/Shipping Confirmation email. Where can I find it?
A: A lot of times with Microsoft accounts like Hotmail, our emails go straight to the spam folder, so check there if you are waiting for a confirmation email. Some people say it is easier to locate from a computer.

I can’t report my time. Is there an easier way?
A: https://runsignup.com/Race/TX/Crowley/TexasScoutStrong is our main home page, start there.  Your next step is to scroll all the way down the main page til you see the links at the bottom such as race info., event info, donate, sign up, and so on.  You want to click on results.  This will take you to your next page which will have submit virtual results tab towards the upper half in lime green.  Click it and submit your finish results.

I got an email stating that my package was delivered, but I can’t find it anywhere! What can I do next?
A: Sometimes the package is delivered correctly a day or two later…but please double check with others in your home to see if they grabbed it and set it aside.  It’s also worth checking with your neighbors, your letter carrier, and the post office to see if they might know where it is, since it did make it there at one point. It sounds like they could use some feedback anyway!

If that doesn’t help track your swag down, let us know and we’ll make it right.

Will the live race be cancelled due to inclement weather or Co-Vid type situations?

A:  The race will be postponed or rescheduled if there is a chance of inclement weather.  We will send updates to your registered email or you may check the website for updates.  The race will be changed to a virtual run if Co-Vid and social distancing become a factor.  We will post updates along those lines on the website and via email as well.  We would plan to not fully cancel the race.

What happens if I need to cancel due to injury or other unfortunate incident?

A:  We cannot refund RunSignUp fees with registration.  We hope that you will consider your monies as a donation to this fundraiser even if you are unable to attend.  We can make note of your name and contact information to give you a discount for our next race.  If you are unable to pick up your t-shirt and packet, we may be able to ship but you will need to pay for shipping.  It would be best that you come to packet pick up to avoid paying shipping fees.
