Description
On the weekend of November 12-14, 2021, children and families will be walking together in spirit in support of the Prelude Music Foundation. Your children’s participation in this Walk-a-Thon will directly impact the lives of children in some of the most under-resourced parts of Houston. Thank you for supporting the Prelude Music Foundation and for teaching your child(ren) about kindness, generosity, and service.
On Walk-a-Thon weekend -- whenever it is most convenient for your family -- children will walk in support of bringing music education classes to children from in-need communities of Houston. Be sure to set up your personal fundraising page! This is designed to be a flexible, low-key, active service opportunity for your family. Please download this handy guide with more information about how to have a successful walk-a-thon.
You set the walking goal that works best for you and your children. Some suggestions are:
- one lap around Rice University walking trail (~ 3 miles)
- 7 laps around the West University Place Colonial Park concrete walking trail (7 laps = 1 mile)
- walk a trail or lap around Memorial Park (over 30 miles of trails available)
- 30 minute family walk around your neighborhood
- walking trail around the Houston Arboretum
- walk around Edith Moore Bird Sanctuary
- one mile walk or run while singing or listening to music
More about the Prelude Music Foundation:
The Prelude Music Foundation serves high-poverty, low-literacy communities where families often lack the tools to help support their children's cognitive and academic development. Utilizing the research-based music and movement curriculum Music Together®, the PMF supports the cognitive, academic, and musical development of children during the most formative years of their lives. Go here for a short video showing the impact of the Foundation.
This academic year (2021-2022) alone, the Foundation is bringing playful, research-based music education classes to approximately 4,000 children throughout Houston. Due to the pandemic, we are unable to safely host our usual fall and winter in-person fundraisers. The remote Walk-A-Thon is a safe way for us to raise critical funds and it is a lovely opportunity to teach children about service. We are excited for this opportunity and hope you'll sign up to walk and/or donate!
