Get those costumes dusted off and sign up for our Cosplay 5k race. It's perfect to kickoff your physical training OR just get to see something other than your house. 

A fun 5K for all ages!! A race to feature your creative side and show the depth of your inner fandom for Anime, Comics, Sci-fi, Furry, Horror, Gaming and Pop Culture.

As the state continues to reduce budgets for the fine arts (band program), the Westerner Band Boosters strive to create fundraising events to help fund and maintain the needs of this ever-growing, award winning group of students in the Lubbock High School Westerner Band.The Cosplay 5K will benefit over 200 students who participate in the Lubbock High School band program. We are excited to support these students with this 5K run with 100% of all monies raised going towards the Lubbock High School Band Program for much needed things. 

Monies raised will fund:

  • music scholarships
  • purchase a much needed semi-cab to finally make use of a trailer sitting on the parking lot
  • professional sectional teachers
  • guest clinicians to assist with preparations for concert and marching contests
  • replace and/or upgrade instruments and equipment
  • marching band show-music, props, and design

​WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE RACE? Runners and walkers of all levels can participate in the race. The event is perfect for running your fastest 5k or for those who are more interested in taking it easy and enjoying the brews.

IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT? No, we allow anyone to run this race. With that said, you should be prepared and cleared to run this distance. For participants under 18, a liability a waiver must be signed by a legal guardian to participate in this race.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO THE COSPLAY 5K? Dressing up in your favorite character attire is encouraged! No weapons allowed as part of the costume.

CAN SPECTATORS COME TO THE EVENT? Spectators are welcome at the start/finish line. Spectators are also invited to sign-up for the COSTUME CONTEST.

ARE HEADPHONES ALLOWED DURING THE RACE? Yes, it's okay to wear headphones.  We encourage you to be aware and cautious of your surroundings for your safety and the safety of others.

ARE STROLLERS ALLOWED ON THE COURSE? Yes!  Please position yourself at the back of the runners to ensure everyone’s safety. There is no fee for babies/children in strollers.

CAN I RUN WITH MY DOG?    YES! We are a dog friendly 5K event, however, you must have your dog on a leash and be in the back of the pack.

ARE BIKES, HOVERBOARDS, SCOOTERS, SKATEBOARDS, NIMBUS 2000, PUSH BIKES, UNICYCLES, SHOES WITH WHEELS ALLOWED ON THE COURSE? No, due to safety concerns, only baby strollers and wheelchairs are allowed on the course.  We ask those with baby strollers to stay on the proper side to ensure the proper pace and to walk/run on the right side of the course so as not to impede other participants.

WILL THERE BE WATER? A water station will be provided on the course. 

DO THE PROCEEDS FROM THE 5K GO TO A CHARITY? Proceeds will be donated to Lubbock High Westerner Band

WHAT DO I GET FOR PARTICIPATING? In addition to a well-organized event and volunteer support along the course, all participants will receive the official race shirt, goodie bag, race bib, live entertainment and more!

WILL THERE BE AWARDS GIVEN TO THE PARTICIPANTS?   YES...Awards will be given out as follows

  • All run participants will receive a medal for participating
  • Overall Race Winners 1st, 2nd & 3rd > Receive an award & Gift Card
  • Best costume Male & Female Winners > Receive an award
  • Best costume Girl & Boy Winners > Receive an award
  • Best costume Groups & Pet Winners > Receive an award

WHEN IS THE COSTUME CONTEST AND WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?  The costume contest is following the race.  Spectators may register to compete in the costume contest. No additional fee for run participants.



CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE RACE BUT STILL WANT TO SUPPORT THE WESTERNER BAND. Register as a virtual runner. You will still receive a commemorative race shirt.

WHEN & WHERE IS RACE PACKET PICK-UP?  Saturday, April 18th 11am-1pm @ Lubbock High School Band Hall, 2004 19th St

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE RACE PACKET? The packet will include custom event shirt, goodie bag, race bib

CAN'T PICK UP THE RACE PACKET. If you cannot make it, packets can also be picked up at the race when registration opens. Please allow enough extra time before the race starts to pick up your packet. Available to pick up 1 hour prior to race start. It closes 20 minutes prior to start. You may also have someone else pick up the packet on PICK-UP Day.

CAN SOMEONE ELSE PICK UP MY RACE PACKET AT PACKET PICK-UP?  Yes! We are here to make your life easier. Someone else may pick up your packet for you. Must complete AUTHORIZATION FORM (document below) or your authorized person to present to our staff. In addition, have an authorized person bring a photo ID (a smart phone picture will suffice) and a copy of your confirmed registration. NOTE: Race packets will not be replaced in the event it is lost or missing after the race packet has been picked up.

CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE RACE. CAN I GET A REFUND? Unfortunately, the Cosplay 5K has a strict No Refunds policy. Registration will be accepted as a donation

WILL A RACE BE CANCELLED OR POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER? We will always monitor weather changes, however, all races will be held rain or shine. If inclement weather occurs, we will post any updates on our website, Facebook and media outlets. We will make decisions based on what is safe for our participants, volunteers and staff.

WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY? All entry fees are NON-REFUNDABLE. This means once we have received your entry, you will not receive a refund if you cannot participate, or if the event is cancelled because of extreme weather, accidents, city emergency, natural disaster or other unforeseen circumstances. All fees paid will be considered a donation to the LHS Westerner Band.

  • WEATHER CANCELLATION POLICY. The safety of Lubbock High Band on the Cosplay 5K participants is the most important thing and if any of the threatening weather conditions listed below are present the day of the event, the event may be delayed or canceled. When weather conditions or other physical conditions present a danger to participants, Westerner Band Booster maintains the right to cancel the event. Less threatening conditions may cause alterations of the course or the post-event activities to ensure participant, volunteer, and community safety. Such conditions fall under the label “Acts of God,” and will not result in refunding of any race entry fees or future event credits.
  • ​THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS. The Lubbock High Band on the Cosplay 5K may be canceled or delayed if any of the following weather conditions exist: Tornado Warning, Tornado Watch, Thunderstorm, “Heavy” Rain, or other major weather condition.
  • START OF THE RACE/ CANCELLATION OF THE EVENT. The start of the event may be delayed 30 minutes to one hour from the posted start time if any of the above mentioned conditions exist. The event may then be canceled if any of the weather conditions persist: Tornado Warning, Tornado Watch or Thunderstorm.
  • AUTHORITY TO CANCEL THE EVENT. Westerner Band Booster Executive Team, in accordance with the city and the local law enforcement, has the authority to cancel the event. If threatening weather conditions force cancellation of the event, no refunds can be provided, since funds were already spent in preparation for race day.In the event of cancellation, there will not be an opportunity to reschedule due to the full High School facilities calendar as well as other Lubbock events over the spring season. Additionally, all Lubbock High Band on the Cosplay 5K participants will receive an email with information on how they can still receive their participant race shirt, if they have not yet picked up.
  • BROADCAST OF CANCELLATION. If the event is canceled, we will notify all participants by email. Cancellation post will be made on the following sites:
