FAQs
How does this Virtual Race work?
It’s a race that you can participate in from anywhere and everywhere. You also get to do it at a time that’s convenient for you. You get to choose the distance that you prefer – either a 5K (3.1 miles) or a 10K (6.2 miles) – and as long as you move for one of those distances, you can select your favorite cardiovascular activity – run, walk, bike, or hike.
How do I participate?
Register on this page and we’ll mail your finisher’s medal right to your home. Just prior to the race, we’ll also email you a downloadable commemorative race bib that you can print and wear if you’d like.
How much does it cost to enter?
The race entry fee is $40 per person and includes a downloadable commemorative race bib and an official finisher’s medal that will be mailed directly to you. 100% of all net proceeds will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).
Do I need to prove that I did the miles?
Nah! We trust you to get your miles done because what’s far more important is that your entry fee is supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). But, we would love to see photos of you doing your race, so feel free to share them on the Facebook Event Page using the hashtags #TeamTogether and #LLS.
When will I receive my medal?
We expect to start shipping medals the week of Monday, May 24th and will email you if there are going to be any delays.
Can I participate from an international location?
You are certainly welcome to register and participate in the race from any location around the world, but we are unable to ship medals internationally at this time.
Do you offer discounts?
Because we want as much money as possible to go to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), there are no discounts available for the entry fee.
Why are you asking for additional donations on top of the entry fee?
This virtual race was created for the sole purpose of raising as much money as possible to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), a non-profit organization committed to fundamentally changing cancer treatment and care for both children and adults. Every dollar raised, from both entry fees and additional donations, supports an organization that is at the forefront of the fight to cure cancer.
What is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)?
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is a global leader in the fight against cancer. The LLS mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Who is Jamie Alamillo and what is TEAM TOGETHER?
In 2003, Jamie Alamillo was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and given less than a 1% chance of ever walking again. After 10 rounds of radiation, 32 rounds of chemo, physical therapy, and lots of other treatments, he made a full recovery and since then has run, biked, and swam countless miles in support of a cure for cancer. And when we say countless miles… we really mean it!
Jamie was initially given a life expectancy of 7 years and as of November 2020, he surpassed that! He is strong, energetic, and looks forward to watching his kids grow up and getting old with his wonderful wife, Erica.
Jamie is tireless in his efforts to raise crucial funds for cancer cures and took on the challenge of raising as much money as possible over a competitive 10-week period as part of the LLS Man & Woman of the Year campaign.
To help him raise bucketloads of cancer-crushing dollars, Jamie assembled a powerhouse group of friends and family and this squad makes up TEAM TOGETHER!
By registering for this virtual race, you automatically become part of the TEAM TOGETHER community. Your entry fees not only get Jamie closer to being named “LLS Man of the Year” in the Gold Coast region of Southern California, but far more importantly, every dollar takes us one step closer to a world without cancer.
You can support Jamie's campaign via a 100% tax deductible donation at this link.
What is the LLS Man & Woman of the Year campaign?
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Man & Woman of the Year is a philanthropic competition to support blood cancer research among a group of motivated and dedicated individuals in the Greater Los Angeles community. Candidates form powerful fundraising teams and compete in honor of a local childhood cancer survivor. The man and woman who have raised the most funds during the ten-week campaign are awarded the prestigious title of Man or Woman of the Year.
