Description

Ajvar 5K Run and Walk is to celebrate the joy of living, the fun of running and walking, the excitement of meeting people, the importance of making new friends and cherishing old ones, and also to remember and honor Macedonia's beautiful heritage. Most importantly, however, we hope you'll join us in remembering to open our hearts and give hope and help to less fortunate children from Macedonia.

Yes, Ajvar 5K is a charity event that provides the opportunity for all of us to participate in fundraising for children in need in Macedonia. We partnered with United Macedonian Diaspora, an international non-governmental and non-profit organization with headquarters in Washington, DC, which addresses the needs and interests of Macedonians throughout the world. All donations are tax deductable. You will receive tax receipt directly from UMD.

Last year we helped Orphanage 11. oktomvri from Skopje. Together with United Macedonian Americans of Detroit donation we were able to purchase 25 beds with mattresses. However, the orphanage is in great need for new flooring, carpets, cabinets etc. So, decision was quickly made to help the Oprhanage again this year. Now you know in advance where your donations will go. Click HERE to see last year's donation video.

Timing, Course, Water Station

Timing will be done by the RacePacket.

The course is a USATF certified our-and-back 5K course on the Four Mile Run and W&OD trails. The start and finish are at Bluemont Park, near South Pavilion. The course runs for the first 1/4 of a mile on the Four Mile Run and then joins W&OD at mile marker 3.5. It continues on W&OD until approximately 1/4 mile up from mile marker 4.5, where the trail splits around electric pole. That is the turning point. Return back the same way.

There will be one water station on the course, which runners will hit twice, first at approximately 1.1 mile and the second time at mile 2.
