Description
Back for Mother's Day Weekend!!! Join us for this day of mountain biking, camaraderie, chilling with your teammates in the pop-up tent city, cooking out, maybe getting muddy, and definitely having a great time on some of the best trails in Virginia. It's fast and smooth and really, really fun out there at Shenandoah River State Park! Test your endurance by taking on the 6-hour mountain bike course, as a solo, or on a 2 or 3-person team.
We'll be doing (really good) prizes (warning: this gets pretty competitive!) and music changes per crowd request every hour. We'll have the grill going with burgers and dogs. The river is handy if you need to cool off, and we'll have a firepit going when your legs need a break. It's a good time, y'all.
Included:
- A great course through Shenandoah River State Park and along the South Fork of the Shenandoah River
- Chip timing and real-time lap results
- Great swag (Shirt availability and options my be limited for late registrants)
- Prizes for the top three winners in each division
- An awesome time in a beautiful place with family and friends
Unfortunately, the weather look a bit dodgy throughout the week, but the forecast seems to be changing on a daily basis. While the trails at Shenandoah River State Park drain well and can handle a few showers and still be rideable, if we have heavy rain the day before and the day of, we probably need to stay off the trails with bikes. We also run into issue with a swampy parking lot after heavy rains and its no fun riding in the rain for 6 hours and then have to get your vehicle unstuck from a muddy field. We are keeping a close eye on the weather and if we think we have to postpone the event, we will make the call on Thursday afternoon and let you all know via email. We have some rain dates in the works and will provide additional information on Thursday if we have to postpone the event (including deferral and refund options).
Mountain Bike
The single track at Shenandoah River State Park will have you smiling all day long. Each loop will be approximately 8 miles long and will contain a mixture of two-track gravel and single-track trail. The team and soloist completing the most laps in 6 hours wins. A tie-in lap count is determined by the fastest combined lap time including pit stop and transition times. Racers will be able to start a new lap 45 minutes before the race duration cutoff. Teams race in a relay format and pass off to the next teammate in the transition area. There is no limit to how many times a teammate can do a lap before they hand off to another teammate. Team participants can go in any order. We will have plenty of space for you to set up your pit stop area for rest, recovery, and camaraderie.

The Course
You will be riding some of the best singletrack around. It's fast, fun, and not too technical. There will be a mass start with about a mile on a gravel road to jostle for position before hitting the single track. The course then follows the River Trail to the RV campground, where you will cross the road and start to climb up to the Bear Bottom Loop Trail. You will have the choice of taking the Upper or Lower Bear Bottom loop to keep things interesting. The upper loop (left) is about 0.1 miles shorter than the lower loop. From there you will take the Redtail Ridge Trail back to Culler's Trail. It is an 8.6-mile loop.
All turns are marked with blue arrows. You need to come through the lap point after every lap. It's a short out and back to the pit stop area.
