Description
The Kappa Sigma chapter of JMU is holding a walk to honor Cameron Gallagher's legacy and mission. Cameron Gallagher was a bright and talented teenager who faced her own personal battles with depression and anxiety, and knew that many like her were struggling. Her dream was to host a community 5k to raise awareness of teenage depression and anxiety. During this time, Cameron also trained for the Shamrock Half Marathon in Virginia Beach. She completed that race in 2014, and passed away suddenly from an undiagnosed heart condition after crossing the finish line. As her family discovered more and more of Cameron's plans for the SpeakUp5k, they continued what she started. The SpeakUp5k race series is now in 5 cities across the U.S. The CKG Foundation also provides programming to teens and families through school programs, workshops, and speaking engagements. Her message of hope and raising awareness also spreads across the world through the SpeakUp Race Team. To learn more, please visit www.ckgfoundation.org.
The Kappa Sigma chapter of JMU is proud to continue raising awareness of depression and anxiety in the JMU & Harrisonburg communities. This will be a non-competitive walk to help fulfill the CKG mission. The walk will start in downtown Harrisonburg and end at the Kappa Sigma house. Join us!
