WHAT DOES THIS RACE SUPPORT?
This award-winning virtual event is a fundraiser held by WSRM. All proceeds from this race will go toward creating an endowed scholarship for underrepresented undergraduate and graduate students studying Sport and Recreation Management at JMU. WSRM is more than halfway toward raising the required $50,000 to endow a scholarship. Let's reach our goal this year!
Underrepresented students face a disproportionate number of challenges in higher education. For example, according to the United Negro College Fund, barriers to graduating from college for some Black students is evidenced by the relatively low retention rates of Black students across the nation. Among students enrolled in four-year public institutions, 45.9% of Black students complete their degrees in six years - the lowest rate compared to other races and ethnicities. Additionally, only 29% of Black students feel financially secure at non-historically Black colleges and universities.
There's no better time to take action and support racial equality, so join us in being the change.
Can I support WSRM's scholarship for underrepresented students without signing up for the race? Absolutely! Click here to give directly to the scholarship fund.
Can I walk the race? Yes! This is an event for all levels, fitness, and abilities. Run, walk, ride, jog - whatever you choose!
Where do I enter my results? Click here to find your name and enter your results.
How long does it take to receive race packets? All participants registered before August 1 should receive their shirts by the start of the race. Registrations received after this date will be mailed or available for pick up in Harrisonburg, Va., in early September.
What sizes are the shirts? The t-shirts are from BreakingT and are unisex sizing.
Who created the design for this year's race? Tsung-Ying (Jackie) Yeh, a 2019 graduate of JMU's Hart School.
