John's Health Statement-
I was born with cystic fibrosis a genetic disease which largely affects the lungs. I was pretty healthy growing up, played a lot of sports, and was only hospitalized a few times. I strongly believe one of the reasons I did so well was because of the prayers of my friends and family.
In my 20s I got sicker ultimately being placed on the lung transplant waiting list in 2008 and receiving my life saving lung transplant in 2010. Post transplant life has been wonderful. I’ve been able to work abd travel the world. In 2017 I married the love of my Jennifer. I’ve also been blessed to meet my wonderful donor’s family on several occasions and I will always be so thankful for my donor Aaron who made these last 14 years possible.
Last year my kidney function really started to decline as a result of the cumulative effects of transplant medications. Now, about a year later I’m needing a kidney transplant and going through the process of being listed at Inova Fairfax hospital where I received my lung transplant. The kidney transplant waiting list is longer than that of lungs (years not months) but unlike lungs that waiting time can be shortened by receiving a kidney from a living donor. Being an organ donor can save 7 lives! So if you haven’t done so, please consider being a donor. Please keep me in your prayers as I take this transplant journey a second time.
